Introducing Poquito, the Freshly Baked Bread Bakery
Hello, travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma,
and lately I’ve been dreaming about moving house…
though that’s still a long way off!
Today I’m excited to introduce a charming little spot located in
Obiyama, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Poquito (Freshly Baked Bread Bakery)”.

This delightful bakery opened on September 3rd and is only open on Fridays and Saturdays each week, making each visit feel like a small treat.

You can park your car at the spot marked by this signboard.

The owner of Poquito originally taught a bread-making class,
and even before opening day, her students were already lining up to buy her bread.
That alone tells you what a wonderful person she is.

Rows of handmade breads sit beautifully arranged on the tables.
The rich, buttery aroma drifts through the air, and your stomach starts to rumble while you’re still in line.

Even ingredients like the dried blueberries and caramel are made by hand from scratch.
And yet, every single loaf is just 200 yen! (Plain rolls are 150 yen.)
It almost feels too good to be true…!

Even the flour and milk are sourced from Kumamoto Prefecture,
showing a real commitment to local ingredients. It’s a warm, neighborhood bakery you’ll want to come back to.

On top of that, I was offered a complimentary cup of coffee.
The owner’s kindness instantly puts you at ease β it’s that kind of place.
Recommended Menu Items at Poquito Bakery

First up, I tried the [Raisin Bread (200 yen)], fresh out of the oven.
When you hear the words “just baked,” how can you possibly resist?
There’s truly nothing like bread straight from the oven.

Look at the size of this thing.
It’s noticeably bigger than the palm of your hand.
And again β it’s only 200 yen.

The dough is unbelievably fluffy and soft, just as you’d hope from freshly baked bread.
The rich aroma and gentle toastiness alone are already a treat for the senses.
The natural sweetness of the raisins is perfectly balanced β before I knew it, the entire loaf had vanished, almost as if I’d drunk it.

Next, the [Sausage Bread (200 yen)].
With a savory, slightly salty flavor, this is the perfect snack to satisfy a small hunger.
The richness of the cheese, the juiciness of the sausage,
plus a clever pop of edamame as an accent β it’s the kind of unbeatable combination
that everyone, young and old, can’t help but love.

Here’s the [Blueberry & Cream Cheese Bread (200 yen)].
When I tore it open, I was amazed:
generous chunks of blueberries and cream cheese were tucked inside.
The tartness of the berries, the gentle sweetness, and the creamy richness all come together beautifully.
No matter how much you eat or where you bite, every mouthful delivers β pure bliss.

And finally, the [Chocolate & Caramel Bread (200 yen)].
The handmade caramel is gentle and never overpowering β something you can only get when it’s made from scratch.
Paired with rich, indulgent chocolate, it tastes more like a dessert than a bread.
Kids will love it, of course, but it’s also the kind of treat that can soothe a tired mom or dad after a long day.

Lovingly handmade bread crafted by a true baking instructor.
One bite is all it takes to feel a wave of happiness βͺ
