Welcome to Kanna Bakery

Hello there!
I’m Binako, a Sarukuma writer who happily munches on something tasty every morning!

Today I’m thrilled to introduce a charming little bakery located in Ichinomiya-machi Miyaji, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Kanna”.

The crisp white building stands out beautifully against Aso’s wide blue sky.
The colorful illustrations on the sign are absolutely adorable too.

The shop sits directly across from Hello Work Aso, so it’s easy to find for visitors exploring the area. ^^

Kanna’s bread is also stocked at Michi-no-Eki Aso (the popular roadside station), and many customers who first try it there become loyal fans, returning again and again to say, “It’s just so delicious!”

The display case is filled with so many tempting choices that you’ll find yourself happily agonizing over which to pick first.

Honestly, you’ll want to take every single one home with you.
Since the loaves are generously sized, sharing a variety with travel companions is a fun way to sample more flavors. β™ͺ

You’ll find versatile staples like Shokupan (Japanese milk bread, 290 yen) and Maru-pan (round bread roll, 210 yen), plus the more unusual Cream Cheese Bagel Ball (110 yen) made with bagel-style dough.

The refrigerator section showcases sweet treats too.
Affordable and tasty-looking sandwiches are also on offer. β™ͺ

The shelves along the wall are stocked with baked sweets, alongside a tempting lineup of bagels in all kinds of flavors. β™ͺ

And don’t miss the bagel sandwiches, perfect for a light lunch on the go.
With both savory and sweet options, there’s something to match whatever you’re craving that day.

These bagel sandwiches have a serious local fan base.

Tucked at the back you’ll find one cozy sofa seat and two counter seats, where you can sit and enjoy your treats on the spot.

The tables are thoughtfully set with picture books and toys, making it easy to relax with little ones in tow. It’s such a welcoming touch for families. β™ͺ

Even better β€” Kanna takes custom birthday cake orders.
A cake from a great bakery? It’s bound to be unforgettable.

Both the breads and cakes use carefully selected ingredients, including Kumamoto Prefecture-grown wheat, Takachiho butter, and Takachiho fresh cream from neighboring Miyazaki.

Kanna’s Recommended Menu

First up, the Melon Pan (160 yen) β€” Japan’s iconic sweet bun named for its melon-like crisscross top.

It’s been ages since I last enjoyed one!

Surprise! When I tore it open, it was packed with raisins.
There’s even a subtle hint of warm spice that gives it real depth of flavor.

The pillowy-soft, lightly sweet dough pairs beautifully with the raisins. A delightful new discovery!

Salt Bread (Shio-pan, 90 yen)
Tear it apart and a buttery aroma drifts up that instantly stirs your appetite.
The gentle saltiness is perfectly balanced β€” once you start, there’s simply no stopping.

Choco Salt (Choco Shio, 100 yen)
I grabbed this one for my chocolate-loving little one.
I looked away for just a moment and it was already gone!

That speed alone says everything about how delicious it is.

Cranberry Bagel (180 yen)
A wonderfully chewy, dense bagel.
Cranberry and bagel are a match made in heaven β€”
despite the satisfying chew, it disappeared in no time. I couldn’t help myself!

Next time, I’m definitely trying a bagel sandwich.

From scones to specialty breads, every single product at Kanna seems to have its own devoted fans.
My advice? Get there early before the popular favorites sell out!
