Hana no Yakata in Tamana — Relaxed Lunch with Ariake Sea Views, Right Next to Kusamakura Onsen
2025.03.21

A Sarukuma writer takes you on a real visit to “Hana no Yakata,” a charming hilltop cafe and shop in Tensui-machi, Tamana City. Price guide: from 200 yen. We’ve covered family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours too.
About Hana no Yakata
Hello travelers, this is Aikero, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m introducing a hidden gem in Tensui-machi, Tamana City
[Hana no Yakata].
Perched on a small hill, this spot offers absolutely breathtaking views!♪
It’s been around for quite a while, but believe it or not, this was my very first visit!
We haven’t featured it on Sarukuma yet, but you can find it by following the route toward [Kusamakura Onsen Tensui], or just plug it into Google Maps and you’ll arrive without any trouble♫
You can also reach it by turning at [Gyukokutei].
The road isn’t particularly narrow, but if you’re not confident driving, I’d suggest going up from beyond the [Tensui-machi Oama Intersection]♫
The parking lot is nice and roomy, as you can see♫
Looks like you can walk straight from the parking lot into the Hana no Yakata Garden… (intriguing!)
What an incredible location!
The sky was a bit cloudy on the day I visited, so the distant view wasn’t perfectly clear — a little disappointing.
But still, the view is amazing!
Beyond the arch, a beautiful garden opens up.
It wasn’t peak flower season during my visit, but I can imagine how lovely this place must be when the blooms are in full swing♫
There are even benches in the parking area♫
Oh, by the way!
That building in the center of the photo is [Kusamakura Onsen Tensui]!
It’s a truly wonderful hot spring (^^)/
I’ll definitely have to cover that one too!
Inside the shop, you’ll find an abundance of miscellaneous goods, flowers, and gardening items!
Plenty of Valentine’s Day items were on display too (●^o^●)
Now, here’s a look at the [Hana no Yakata] lunch menu!
*Prices listed are as of January.
Due to rising material costs, some prices have been revised, so please use these as a reference only.

Hinomoto Pork — that’s a name I’d never heard before!
It’s read “hinomoto-buta”.
It’s an original brand pork from Saiki Farm in Nagomi-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture.
The lean meat is a soft pink color, and even when cooked it stays tender with a gentle natural sweetness.
This flyer is also posted on the [Hana no Yakata Instagram]♪
If you’re planning a weekday meal, check out the daily menu (^^)/
And here’s a fun discovery —
While scrolling through Google reviews, I noticed the word “buffet”!!
There’s a lunch buffet on weekends and holidays!
〈Weekend & Holiday Lunch Buffet〉
・Adults (junior high and up): 1,500 yen
・Children (elementary): 1,000 yen
・Toddlers (3 years and up): 800 yen
★60-minute time limit
And there are sweets too♡
Perfect for a post-lunch cafe break (*’ω’*)
Handwritten flyers have such a warm, personal touch (●^o^●)
Both the lunch buffet and the curry buffet sound seriously tempting~!
The drink bar offers juice, coffee, and tea♪
And here’s what the inside of the shop looks like!
From the window seats, you can enjoy your meal while gazing out at the beautiful scenery♪
But there’s another seating area I’d really recommend — especially for families with kids and flower lovers!
It’s right here!!
The greenhouse!
How elegant is it, to dine surrounded by greenery!?
“This is really popular with families with kids,” the staff told me (^^)
You know how kids tend to want to move around once they’re done eating? (;^ω^)
As long as no other customers are around, this space gives them more room to roam than the indoor seating!
That said, there are products on display, so please don’t let the little ones run wild (^_^;)
Since I visited in January, the Valentine’s-themed decorations were absolutely adorable♡
The free-to-use blankets are such a thoughtful touch♫
The greenhouse is surprisingly warm even in winter!
Which makes me wonder — does it get really hot in summer?
Recommended Menu at Hana no Yakata

The weekday lunch — omurice (Japanese-style omelet over rice)!
Dessert was brought out at the same time♪
Generous chunks of meat♪
And as a happy surprise, two pieces of karaage came on the side too! lol
Sweet potato salad with raisins!
How chic… it tastes like something from a department store deli♫
The concentrated sweetness of the raisins pairs beautifully with the soft potato!
Also from the weekday menu — chicken katsu!
It’s pretty huge Σ(・ω・ノ)ノ!
The chicken katsu comes with simmered chicken wing tips and atsuage (thick fried tofu) on the side♪
Little side dishes always make a meal feel more complete~ (●^o^●)
Wobbly, jiggly coffee jelly!
I used to dislike coffee jelly when I was younger — guess I’ve finally grown into it!
About 40 minutes from central Kumamoto City, in Tensui-machi just next door to Nishi-ku.
If you’ve come all the way to [Hana no Yakata], why not enjoy the hot springs too♪
Spend an elegant lunchtime soaking in those gorgeous views~ (^^)/
On Sunday, March 29, there’s even going to be a joint event with [Kusamakura Onsen Tensui]♪
A traveling petting zoo, balloon art, festival booths — tons of fun activities for kids!
