Introducing Uosei

Hello travelers!
I’m Binako, a SaruKuma writer
β€” and yes, my muscles are still sore today!

Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem
located in Hanadate, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
“Uosei”.

Step inside, and you’ll find both a fresh fish market and an eat-in dining area under the same roof β€” a wonderful slice of Japanese seafood culture.

The eat-in section also offers takeout, so head to the left for dining.
For purchasing fresh fish, just head right β™ͺ

This is the fresh fish corner.
There’s such an incredible variety of fish β€” you may even spot some species you’ve never seen before!

My kids were absolutely fascinated by the colorful display.

Across from the fish market is the eat-in dining area.
Seating is counter-style only, with partitions between each seat β€” perfect for enjoying a quiet, private meal.

There are also high chairs available, making it easy to visit with little ones.

Right near the kids’ seats, you can even watch live fish swimming in tanks β€” a fun bonus for visiting families β™ͺ

Self-serve water and small plates are also provided.

You’ll find kid-sized plates, forks, and spoons too β€” a thoughtful touch for families.

Toward the back, you’ll find a touch-panel ordering kiosk β€” easy to use even for first-time visitors.

The menu offers a wide variety of choices.
You can even pick your portion size β€” “Small,” “Regular,” or “Large” β€” which is super convenient.

Uosei’s Must-Try Menu

This time, I tried the Tennen Mekiki Akami-don (Wild-Caught Red Tuna Bowl, Small Size / 1,000 yen).

Wait… this is the SMALL size?!

The portion was so generous, I had to do a double take.

My tuna-loving son was over the moon!
Thick slices of fresh red tuna piled high, with plenty of nori seaweed scattered on top.
And to top it off β€” generous spoonfuls of ikura (salmon roe). At this price, it’s almost unbelievable!

One bite, and you’ll be hooked… oh my, this is delicious!

Light and clean on the palate, the tuna practically melts in your mouth.
And the soy sauce that coats the rice and fish? Absolutely sublime.

Believe it or not, my child polished off the entire bowl.
I only got one bite myself… it must have been THAT good!

This kaisendon (seafood rice bowl) is perfect for a special treat β€” whether dining in or taking out for a luxurious meal at home.
If you’re visiting Kumamoto, definitely add Uosei to your foodie itinerary!
