Hello, fellow travelers!

This is Binako, your hungry-as-ever writer from SaruKuma, where time seems to crawl when you’re starving!

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a charming little bakery located in Kusunoki, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Karimero”.

Look for the cheerful pink sign β€” you can’t miss it! The retro vibe of the storefront is absolutely delightful and gives the bakery so much character.

You can park right in front of the shop! Just be careful when getting in and out, as the parking is along the road.

Right in the middle of the shop sits Karimero’s signature melon pan! When I arrived in the early afternoon, they were almost completely sold out, so
I highly recommend visiting in the morning!

Along the walls, you’ll find a delicious selection of sweet pastries and savory bread.

Mini Sweet Buns β€” 120 yen
These little gems come filled with
almond cream, chocolate cream, or peanut cream. Perfect for snacking!

The display case next to the register also features hearty, filling options that make a perfect lunch!

The Fresh Anpan (sweet red bean bun) β€” 120 yen caught my eye too…

There’s also a cozy eat-in corner inside, where many locals love to relax and enjoy their bread at the table.

This time, I went with the
An-Butter (sweet red bean & butter bun) β€” 120 yen!
(I know, I know β€” not the melon pan! But the An-Butter was practically calling out to me…)

It’s absolutely PACKED with sweet red bean paste AND butter β€” pure heaven!

Warming it up lets the butter melt into the bread for an even richer, creamier flavor!
The sweet red bean paste blends beautifully with the melted butter, creating a flavor combo that is
SO good it sends shivers down your spine!
The bread itself is wonderfully soft yet slightly chewy, making every bite incredibly satisfying.

Next up, I tried the
Mixed Veggie Loaf β€” 230 yen!
This bread has vegetables baked right in β€” a parent’s dream for sneaking nutrition into kids’ meals!

The loaf comes with four different flavors:
milk, spinach, tomato, and pumpkin!

I used the tomato bread for breakfast!
Started cutting slits with a knife…
Then I realized something:
Wouldn’t scissors work better?
So I switched to scissors, lol!

And ta-da!
Then I added a face using nori (seaweed)…
(I used mayonnaise to stick the nori on!)

VoilΓ  β€” it’s done!
Tomato bread “ghost soup” β€” boo!
My finest (and clumsiest) mom-style creation, lol!

My kids were absolutely thrilled and gobbled it right up! It’s such a relief knowing the bread is wholesome and safe for them to enjoy.

And of course, the crusts? I happily devoured those myself!

Definitely give Karimero a visit when you’re in Kumamoto β€” you won’t regret it!
