📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer visits “Re:)Break,” a brand-new crepe shop in Kuhonji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City. Prices start from ¥750. We’ve put together everything you need to know — family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Introducing Re:)Break

Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Ever since I was little, crepes have been my festival must-have — I simply can’t resist them.
If you’re a fellow crepe lover, I have great news: a brand-new crepe shop has just opened its doors!

Today I’m introducing Re:)Break, located in Kuhonji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City.
【Re:)Break】Newly opened on February 8th!
The name Re:)Break carries the wish of being “a place to take a relaxing breather.”
The owner is a true dog lover — there are four pups waiting at his family home!
The shop logo features two of his favorite things: crepes and his beloved dogs ♡

“I’ve always dreamed of running a crepe shop someday…” — and that dream has finally come true! There’s only one private parking spot right in front of the shop.
No worries though — there are several coin-operated parking lots nearby, so driving here is totally doable!

Heads up: the closest one, D-Parking Kuhonji 1-chome No.2, is for kei cars (small Japanese cars) only. Drivers of standard-sized cars should look elsewhere.
Also, right next to Re:)Break is a popular ramen shop (Ramen Hasegawa-ya) that often has a line out the door, so the lots can fill up fast!
Step inside and you’re greeted by a stylish vintage-themed interior with green accents.
Seating is counter-style only.

The chairs are on the tall side, so do keep an eye on little ones to prevent any tumbles!
The owner is considering adding kids’ chairs in the future to make dining in even easier for families. The first thing that catches your eye inside? Vintage clothing.
It looks like decoration, but it’s actually for sale!

What’s the connection between crepes and vintage clothes?
Well, the owner is originally from Osaka and used to run an online vintage clothing business. Now he sells his directly-imported overseas finds right here at the shop, too!

In-store sales are also planned, so vintage fashion fans, take note! Here’s the Re:)Break menu.

That’s the owner’s mother-in-law you can spot in the background. Fun fact — she happens to be my dad’s old classmate, and that’s how I heard about the shop opening!

Since the owner is from Osaka, his mother-in-law cheerfully told us, “Sometimes I have to translate the local Kumamoto dialect for him!”

Through her connections, the shop also offers a special menu featuring strawberries from Niibe Farm in Jonan-machi.

Re:)Break Recommended Menu Items

I asked, “What do you recommend? What’s popular?”
The owner replied, “For dessert, the Crème Brûlée is our top seller!” — and yet, somehow, I went with the Dekopon Cream anyway. Oops!

The dekopon (a sweet Japanese citrus) comes straight from a farmer in Kawachi — the mother-in-law’s hometown!

Lots of people pose with this chalkboard for photos — Instagram-worthy vibes guaranteed!Yeah… I expected this to happen (sigh).
But don’t worry — there are real chunks of dekopon tucked inside, so it all worked out!

The dekopon’s sweet-and-tangy flavor balances beautifully with the cream — a delicious combo!
The crepe skin has a lovely slightly chewy texture.

You can also customize your own original crepe with toppings — highly recommended! This is what my dad ordered: Prosciutto & Cream Cheese with Basil Sauce.
What surprised me was how many savory crepe options there are!

Perfect for those who say, “I don’t really eat crepes because I don’t like sweet stuff,” or parents thinking, “My kids are still too young for whipped cream and chocolate.”

The shop opens at noon, but some people grab a savory crepe like a quick brunch, and some guys even order two!
Savory crepes are topped on a hot iron griddle, so they’re served piping hot!
If it’s for a child, just let the staff know and they’ll adjust accordingly. The Açaí Smoothie!
“What even is açaí?” my dad muttered — and ordered one anyway.

Here’s his honest review:
“It had a slight tang and was tasty — easy to drink. People who already know açaí will like it, but if there were a photo of the actual fruit, it would add a visual element and make the experience even better.”

Fair point, Dad. (For the record, I’ve never tried açaí either!)

There are plenty of açaí bowl shops around, but it’s wonderful to have it in such a casual drink form!
Komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach) and banana smoothie.
Like the açaí, it’s made fresh to order!

With a whole banana inside, it has a gentle, naturally sweet flavor.
My son sneaked in for a sip from the side, but apparently his refined palate didn’t approve — he didn’t try to steal it again!
Why not stop by Re:)Break for a relaxing little break of your own?
Whether you’re grabbing just a drink or getting takeout, feel free to drop in!

About 50 meters from the shop, you’ll find Idenokuchi Park — a small park with a few play structures and an open space.
Great for a stroll with the kids, while moms and dads can refresh themselves with a crepe in hand!

Kid-sized crepes are also being considered for the future!

Be sure to give Re:)Break a try!
