Hello, fellow travelers!

This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer — I recorded a radio exercise program but have only managed to do it once so far!

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to Pan to Asia Mahariku, a wonderful little bakery located in Oe, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

The shop sits just off the main street in Oe. Thanks to the signboard out front, it’s pretty easy to find ^^

Inside, the breads are beautifully displayed ♪

The owner told me that his wife normally serves lunch on the second floor, but she’s currently on maternity leave after having a baby ^^
The couple runs the shop together and they design it to be welcoming for families with young children too.

The owner was incredibly kind and warm-hearted!

Let’s start with this one.

It’s packed with a variety of ingredients, but they all complement each other beautifully — bringing out the best in every bite.

Plump beans, the citrusy fragrance of lemon peel, the refreshing aroma of Earl Grey — and the sugar sprinkled on top adds the perfect finishing touch.
The dough is soft enough that even kids can munch on it happily.

The balance is genuinely impressive.

I savored every bite, soaking in all those wonderful flavors!

Next up: the oolong tea bread.

Oolong tea?!
My heart raced with anticipation.

The crust is firm on the outside, but the inside is wonderfully moist, with a refreshing oolong tea note that’s so easy to enjoy.

The sweetness of the dried figs wraps around the bread’s flavor and the oolong tea aroma in the most delightful way —
the goddess of dried figs has descended!

This one is seriously delicious.
I love the firm texture.

It has a great chewiness, a touch of sweetness, and a lovely toasty aroma — you could eat it every day and never get tired of it.

The owner who came up with this bread is a genius!

There are many more breads here packed with the owner’s careful craftsmanship, so I’ll definitely be coming back!
