About the Cafe

Hello, travelers!
It’s the kind of day where you can’t bear to leave the warm kotatsu!
This is Sunny 🐩, writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m introducing a charming little spot in Okino, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
herb&garden DAISY β€” a cozy garden cafe perfect for travelers seeking a peaceful Kumamoto countryside escape. Here’s the view from the road.
Look out for the adorable goat sign and the rainbow-colored staircase β€” they’re impossible to miss! The cafe is conveniently located right across from Kikuyo West Elementary School.A stylish signboard greets you right at the entrance. The on-site parking lot can fit about 5 cars.
You’ll also find Oceans Sevens Street Eats, previously featured by our writer Nanako, sharing the same property β€” perfect for a two-stop foodie adventure.

And here’s the entrance to the cafe.

Right beside the cafe stretches a lush grape orchard β€” a lovely scene year-round.Outside the cafe, you’ll find a beautifully displayed herbal tea menu.
There are so many fascinating herbs here β€” including some I’d never even heard of!
And the grape smoothie? Sounds like pure refreshment.Freshly harvested local vegetables are also for sale.

An enormous head of Chinese cabbage for just 100 yen β€” what a steal!
(And it was wonderfully crisp and juicy, too.)

Since I arrived early in the morning, the produce display was still pretty empty.
By the time we left, the shelves were overflowing with vegetables β€” but I forgot to snap a photo!Inside, there are 2 tables.
There’s also a glass-enclosed terrace with one additional table β€” perfect for soaking in the garden views.Inside the cafe, you’ll find a detailed herbal tea menu.
Each tea lists its health benefits, so you can choose one based on how you’re feeling β€” a thoughtful touch for wellness travelers!

Single Herbal Tea
HOT β€” 300 yen
ICE β€” 350 yen

Blended Herbal Tea
HOT β€” 400 yen
ICE β€” 450 yenSo many wonderful herbs to explore!
I honestly couldn’t tell one from another, but the cheerful young owner is happy to walk you through every option β€” even if you don’t speak much Japanese, her warm hospitality makes choosing easy and fun.
The terrace also features a charming kids’ play space.
With toys and a hammock, my little ones absolutely refused to leave!

Right beside the hammock, you’ll spot fresh herbs growing in the garden.
The entire cafe is filled with the soothing fragrance of fresh herbs β€” pure aromatherapy!Beyond the terrace, you’ll spot a working farm where they cultivate even more herbs.
All the herbs used in the cafe are 100% pesticide-free and grown right here on-site.
That means even kids (and health-conscious travelers) can sip with total peace of mind!
Dogs are welcome here, too!
There’s even a friendly toy poodle who serves as the cafe’s resident greeter (^^)

Out in the grape orchard, you’ll find 3 friendly goats grazing.
While the orchard is off-limits during grape season, you can still meet and pet the goats β€” a fun cultural experience for visitors of all ages!
Don’t forget to say hi to Piyo-chan, the chicken who was hatched right here at DAISY and has grown completely accustomed to people.
Unfazed by dogs, goats, or anything else, free-spirited Piyo-chan wanders the property like she owns the place (^^)

It’s an absolute paradise for kids β€” and adults β€” who love animals!

Must-Try Menu Items

First thing in the morning, my kids declared:
“We want DAISY’s ice cream!”
So today’s mission was clear β€” soft serve!Today’s order:
Strawberry Soft Serve (Normal) β€” 300 yen
Bursting with juicy strawberry chunks in every bite!

Absolutely delicious!
Even at this generous size, it disappears in no time.Made with sweet potatoes from their own farm β€” only available while supplies last:
Sweet Potato Soft Serve (Normal) β€” 300 yen
This is THE quintessential Japanese sweet potato flavor!

An absolute must for sweet potato lovers!
Loaded with so much sweet potato that it’ll fill you right up (^^)

And remember β€” both of these are the Normal size!
The Big size is nearly double β€” perfect for sharing or extra-hungry travelers!

I also tried the Lavender Herbal Tea β€” 300 yen.
A wonderful aroma and a soothing flavor β€” said to have a calming, relaxing effect. Just what you need after a day of sightseeing!

I also enjoyed the Sweet Potato Chips β€” 200 yen
but forgot to take a photo until I’d nearly finished them! Ξ£(οΏ£γƒοΏ£lll)

The bag was generously full when it arrived!
Perfectly crispy with a delightful sweet-and-salty balance β€” totally addictive!

DAISY is the kind of place where both kids and adults end up lingering far longer than planned, simply because it’s so wonderfully relaxing.
The menu also rotates with the seasons, so there’s always something new to discover.
