Hello there!
This is Binako, a writer at Saru Kuma!

Today I’m introducing a wonderful bakery located in
Kamishima, Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Madopan Desaki Kumamoto Kashima”.

I had been driving past for ages thinking “Bread~~ Bread~~~” and finally made it inside!

The bakery sits inside the DESAKI complex, which feels like its own little town.
Other spots I’ve covered before — Kushiyaki Rinku, Marugen Ramen, and Torimaru — are all on the same property.

And good news for visitors with rental cars: there’s a large parking lot right out front!

There are tables set up outside.

Buying fresh bread and biting into it in the open air…
Pure bliss!

Inside, there’s also an eat-in corner decorated in stylish red and white.

Which color chair will I sit in today?

The fun begins from the moment you walk in!

The bread selection is impressive — rows and rows of beautifully baked loaves and rolls.

Savory rolls (sōzai-pan) and sweet pastries are everywhere — pick whatever your mood calls for.

Here’s a black fig bread.

Slowly simmered black figs baked into bread? That can only be delicious.

(Apologies for the blurry photo — sorry!)

Japanese Chestnut Mont Blanc — 210 yen

You probably think Mont Blanc is only a cake, right?
Well, it can be bread too!

Wow! That looks amazing.

There were tons of sandwiches too — both savory and sweet varieties!

Coffee Jelly Sandwich — 380 yen

Melon Whip — 180 yen

Definitely sweet, definitely delicious — guaranteed.

Muffins — 130 yen

Plain, Chocolate, Blueberry — all available.
Perfect for sharing with family and friends!

This one!!!

Cheese Dog — 280 yen

They fry it up fresh when you pay, so you get a piping-hot, crispy cheese dog right out of the fryer!

Freshly fried food just hits different, doesn’t it?

Hearty savory sandwiches were on offer too.

I want to buy SO many of these!

Creamy Ham Sandwich — 150 yen

Shrimp Cutlet Dog — 280 yen

Hearty, delicious, and totally satisfying — the trifecta of bread perfection.

Made with the bakery’s hugely popular signature loaf:

Mado Sandwich — 280 yen

Wait, look closely — does it have a face?!
How adorable!

Madoka Loaf — 1 kin (about 340g): 400 yen / 2 kin: 750 yen

Just 750 yen for a 2-kin loaf — incredibly affordable!
Great for big families or as a souvenir gift.

Recommended Menu Picks

Today I went with the
Creamy Ham Sandwich — 150 yen!

Unwrapping…

Just look at all that cream cheese.
And those vegetables!

Magnificent.

Yes — SO good!!!

Seriously delicious!!!

That crisp, fresh crunch is unbeatable.

Melty cheese tangled with savory ham, all wrapped in pillowy soft bread — it’s seriously next-level.

At just 150 yen, you absolutely have to try it.

Next up:

Rice Bread (Okome no Pan) — 120 yen

Sometimes simple is the best.
There’s nothing more comforting.

Perfectly round.

Pillow soft.

I want to bury myself in this bread.

Oh wow!

Springy, chewy, and incredibly tasty!
That’s the unique mochi-like texture you only get from rice flour bread.

The toasted exterior and nutty aroma are perfect — so good!

And finally, the Salt Bread with Chocolate — 150 yen!

This one’s for my chocolate-loving kid.

The top is sprinkled with sea salt.

The dough itself is kneaded with chocolate too — chocolate everywhere!

And there’s chocolate inside too!

It’s a chocolate parade!

I had a bite myself, and the chocolate-to-bread balance was spot-on!
A must for any chocolate lover.

Bonus: kids can eat it without getting their hands sticky!

You can either dine in or take your bread to go, so be sure to stop by!
