📌 What You’ll Find in This Article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Tsubaki,” a seafood restaurant in Kamiamakusa City. Prices start from around 800 yen. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access details, and opening hours.

When you think of Amakusa, what comes to mind?

The sea! Dolphins! And of course… fresh seafood bowls!

That’s the image, right?

Today we’re heading to a seafood restaurant called Tsubaki, located in Oyano-machi, Kamiamakusa City!

Recommended Menu

Right in the center of the restaurant sits a large live tank, where freshly caught local fish swim around waiting to become your meal.

Today’s special is bigfin reef squid (aori-ika), and the price is….market price!!! ((((;゚Д゚)))))))

Seeing “market price” on the menu made us a little nervous, so we asked the proprietress — and surprisingly, it’s only 800 yen per 100g, which is quite reasonable!

However, on stormy days when squid can’t be caught, the price goes up.

Of course, the most popular dish at this restaurant is the legendary… seafood donburi (kaisen-don)!!

But for younger visitors, the staff recommended the Bikkuri Don (Surprise Bowl), so we ordered it right away. After a short wait…

This beauty arrived at our table!

A massive shrimp, squid, scallop, nori seaweed, vegetable tempura, sea urchin (uni), and salmon roe (ikura), all piled high on top of rice — a Luxury Seafood Tempura Bowl!

But it must be expensive, right?

Not at all! With all of that piled on top, the price is just ¥1,380!

Surprise on the plate, surprise on the bill — a truly satisfying experience! ♪
