Welcome to Nishihara Park

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Rikotama, a writer for Saru-Kuma!

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to
Nishihara Park,
located in Kuhonji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture!

You’ll find the park right next to the Kumamoto University School of Medicine, near the Yume Mart Kuhonji supermarket!
There are about 5 parking spaces near the entrance.

There’s one covered bench here — perfect for resting in the shade!

You’ll also find several regular benches scattered throughout!

Here’s the restroom — note that it’s a Japanese-style (squat) toilet!

There are two drinking fountains on site!

There’s a children’s center on the grounds, but at the time of our visit, it was under construction. Since the work was scheduled to wrap up by the end of February, families may already be enjoying a brand-new, sparkling children’s center this spring!

The park is filled with cherry blossom (sakura) trees!
In spring, you can enjoy traditional hanami (cherry blossom viewing) while the kids play — what a perfect combination!

What Makes This Park Special

The main attraction is this fantastic combination tunnel slide!

For the little ones, there’s also a mini slide — perfect for toddlers!

Bouncy spring rider!

And a sandbox for endless creative play!

Right next to the playground, a magnificent camphor tree (kusunoki) towers overhead!

Beside the camphor tree is a small grassy hill, dotted with large stones — a fun spot for adventurous little explorers!

On the opposite side of the playground, there’s another smaller open area!

While there’s no playground equipment here, a beautiful plum (ume) blossom tree greets you at the entrance.
This spring, why not visit Nishihara Park for some cherry blossom viewing combined with fun at the children’s center?
