Introducing Kissa Suisei
Hello travelers! This is Aikero, writer for [Sarukuma].
Today I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District —
[Kissa Suisei] (Cafe Mercury).
This delightful cafe is just about 1 minute away from AEON Mall Kumamoto (locals still sometimes call it “Claire”!) — perfect for a quick stop before or after shopping (^○^)
If you didn’t know about this place, definitely check it out after reading this article (^.^)♪
The cafe is located on a side street one block off Hamasen Road, on the AEON Mall Kumamoto side!
Look for this flag as your landmark — there’s a hair salon at the front, so walk further in to find the cafe.
The white building is “Suisei.”
Parking is available in the row directly in front of the cafe, and
you can also park next to the hair salon right after you enter from the road.
Please don’t park in the spaces between the hair salon and the cafe.
The lot is spacious and easy to use, but if you’re unsure, just ask the staff inside.
The soft serve ice cream sign at the entrance is absolutely adorable!
There’s also a notice about the pancakes — they take about 20 minutes to prepare.
But honestly, 20 minutes flies by when you’re chatting away~
Here’s what the inside of Suisei looks like.
The interior design is just gorgeous♪
The space has a lovely nostalgic Showa-era retro vibe that feels both familiar and fresh — perfect for soaking up a slice of Japanese cafe culture (^○^)
There are even Japanese manga in the back to read while you wait.
Did you notice? All the little figures on the shelves are looking at the soft serve ice cream — such a cute touch!
Self-service water is available here (^^)/
The restroom is on the left side as you enter.
Now let’s dive into the Suisei menu!
When you think Japanese kissaten (retro cafe), you have to try the Napolitan spaghetti (^^)/
Spicy food lovers can challenge themselves with the level 5 spicy version!
Such a comforting menu lineup.
They also offer 3 types of hot sandwiches (^^)/
The salt lemon pasta really caught my eye!
These dishes look like guaranteed winners!
They serve pizza too! With so many menu options, choosing is a delicious dilemma!
Don’t miss the dessert menu — there’s plenty to choose from!
This place serves the thick, rich style of Japanese soft serve ice cream (^.^)
Don’t you all love these classics(●^o^●)?
Look at that melon float with soft serve sticking right out of it!
For the drink set, you can choose any drink with a ★ mark (^^)/
They even have sweet potato frappes!
So many varieties to try!
A note on the one-order-per-person policy: children old enough to eat solid food are also asked to order one item each.
Someone at another table ordered this one — I couldn’t look away as the staff poured chocolate over it right at the table!
Berry lovers should try this one (^^)/
This one is super cute and comes with soft serve!
They’ve got cat lovers covered too~♪
And it’s not just chocolate — it’s raw chocolate (nama-choco), which makes it extra special.
Kissa Suisei Recommended Menu

Jumbo Salted Mackerel Set Meal — 990 yen
The rice portion was generous (^.^)
And the variety of small side dishes (kobachi) is such a nice touch♪
Teriyaki Chicken Pizza — 1,300 yen
The crust is wonderfully crispy, and beneath the generous layer of cheese hides juicy teriyaki chicken!
The nori (seaweed) topping pairs amazingly well (●^o^●)
Kitty Cat Pancakes — 1,600 yen
Sandwiched between the two pancakes is whipped cream and fresh fruit!
I expected a light fluffy texture, but they’re actually thick, fluffy and chewy — really filling and satisfying (^○^)
If you’re having these after a meal, prepare to be very full!
The thick soft serve was smooth, milky, and absolutely delicious!
This time we added the +300 yen drink set (^^)/
They may look identical, but these are house-made craft ginger ale and house-made craft cola!
Both were super easy to drink, and the cola had that authentic “ah, so this is what real cola tastes like!” flavor — really delicious (^◇^)laugh
When paying, just bring this card to the register (^^)/
Please note that seating is limited to 1.5 hours per visit.
“Suisei” offers a wonderful blend of retro charm with modern touches — a truly unique cafe experience♪
