Sweets Koubou Honey Queen,
a wonderful little cake shop tucked away in Namazu, Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

During my visit, the shop was decked out in adorable Halloween decorations — so charming and festive!

Bonus: there’s a spacious parking lot right on the property! ♪

The shop’s signage makes it easy to spot — no worries about getting lost!

Inside, you’ll find a cozy eat-in corner as well!

It’s perfect if you have a bit of time to spare

All the cakes here are a flat 800 yen, which makes them wonderfully affordable! ★

They also offer a lovely selection of baked goods! ★
With options ranging from individual treats to assorted gift boxes, there’s something for every occasion.

Pudding Daifuku — 260 yen

Matcha Fresh Chocolate Castella — 150 yen

I was so curious — what exactly is fresh chocolate castella?

It turns out it’s a fluffy castella sponge cake (a traditional Japanese honey-style sponge) with rich fresh chocolate sandwiched in the middle — and they even mix fresh chocolate into the batter itself!

Whoa!!

This is incredibly moist and absolutely delicious.
I assumed the texture would be more like traditional castella,
but it was wonderfully soft and moist throughout.

The fresh chocolate inside is subtly sweet and melt-in-your-mouth smooth — you’ll find yourself reaching for another bite before you know it.

Now for the Pudding Daifuku — a wonderfully creative twist that wraps creamy pudding inside soft, chewy mochi (a traditional Japanese rice cake).

Oh wow, this is genuinely delicious!
The daifuku has just the right level of softness —
tender, chewy, and oh-so-satisfying.

The pudding inside has a firmer texture and isn’t overly sweet — a perfect partner to the soft, pillowy mochi exterior.

Whoever invented this is a genius.

The Pudding Daifuku is seriously amazing!
