📌 What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “Fujihiro Kaho,” a traditional Japanese sweets shop in Shinsoto, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City. Prices start from just 110 yen. We also cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!
It’s Binako, your Sarukuma writer!

Today I’m taking you to a charming little shop called
“Fujihiro Kaho” (藤ひろ菓舗),
located in Shinsoto, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City.

This long-established manju (steamed bun) shop is easy to spot — just look for the cute cat flag waving outside! ^^

They also serve fried Ikinari Dango (Kumamoto’s famous sweet potato dumpling) and fried manju, which are widely praised as absolutely delicious! (^^♪

The parking lot is right beside the shop, and there’s a clear sign — easy to find even for first-time visitors! ^^

Inside the display case, you’ll find a beautiful selection of dango (sweet rice dumplings) and mochi (rice cakes). ^^
And the lovely shop owner is so warm and welcoming! ( *´艸`)

Frozen Warabi Mochi

Wait — frozen warabi mochi?!
I honestly couldn’t picture it at first and was totally surprised!
They come in fun flavors like Apple Ginger and Earl Grey,
so it’s fun to try them all and find your favorite! ( ^)o(^ )

Frozen Fresh Cream Daifuku

This one’s frozen too?!
But I’m sure it tastes amazing!

Does it turn into something like ice cream? Now I’m really curious~~

Here are some pricing highlights:
Amazake Manju (sweet rice malt bun): 90 yen
Imo Manju (sweet potato bun): 90 yen
Ikinari Dango (Kumamoto’s iconic sweet potato dumpling): 110 yen
They also offer fried manju and fried Ikinari Dango! (*´ω`*)

I’m a huge fan of amazake manju~~ (´;ω;`) The variety here is just incredible!

They even have ice candy bars (Japanese-style popsicles)!
The firm, classic kind, right?

Oh, my beloved hard ice pops…

Flavors include:
Chocolate, Mango, Pure Milk
Cassis Orange, Wasanbon & Brown Sugar, Azuki (sweet red bean)

Every single one sounds amazing!

Good news for travelers: credit cards, e-money, PayPay, and nanaco are all accepted!

Recommended Menu

This time, I tried:

Komenoko Dango (rice flour dumpling): 90 yen
Kuzu Dango (arrowroot dumpling): 90 yen
Sasa Dango (bamboo-leaf wrapped dumpling): 90 yen

So I got to taste them all!

Round, plump, and adorable…

Komenoko Dango

This was a new one for me, so I was curious to see what it would be like!
You can choose between two types of anko (sweet bean paste): koshian (smooth) or tsubuan (chunky)!

I’m team tsubuan all the way! ♪

Wow wow wow!

Komenoko! (rice flour!)

The dumplings are dusted with rice flour, giving them a slightly firm bite that’s seriously addictive!
The aroma of rice lingers beautifully — it’s incredibly delicious!

The anko has just the right level of sweetness, so you can devour them in one go!

Next up, Kuzu Dango.

I love kuzu mochi, so I ordered this without hesitation! ( *´艸`)
Kuzu Dango comes only with koshian (smooth bean paste).

Unbelievably delicious.
The chewy, springy kuzu wraps around the smooth koshian for an absolutely heavenly bite.

I want to keep this in my mouth forever.

Sasa Dango

It came wrapped in a bag, and the moment I opened it,
the fragrance of bamboo leaves was just irresistible!

Ahhhh! That gorgeous bamboo-leaf scent~~!
I couldn’t help but exclaim with joy as I unwrapped it.

Sasa Dango also comes only with koshian.

The anko, infused with the flavor and aroma of bamboo leaves,
fills your mouth with pure happiness…

No wonder pandas love bamboo so much!

The dumpling itself is wonderfully chewy without being sticky,
so it’s super easy to enjoy! ( *´艸`)

Delicious AND affordable — this place is absolutely worth a visit!
