About the Restaurant

Hello travelers! It’s Kurumikko, your SaruKuma writer (^^)

Today I’m introducing
“Soba Ryori Yabu”,
a hidden gem tucked away in Nishihara Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

As you wind your way along the country roads of Nishihara Village, soaking in the natural scenery, you’ll spot this intriguing sign. The setting feels wonderfully secluded — a true off-the-beaten-path discovery!
Aso is famous for many specialties, but soba (buckwheat noodles) is absolutely one you can’t miss ♪There’s a spacious parking lot right out front with comfortable space for around 3 cars.
Look at those beautiful pottery pieces displayed up there! ✨
My little one and I got pretty excited at the sight (*‘∀‘)

Inside, the high ceilings and refined, grown-up atmosphere create a wonderfully calm setting.
There’s one table for 4 and two tables for 6.

It’s the kind of place where you can savor your soba slowly and enjoy a peaceful, unhurried moment.
The sunlight streaming in feels just right (*‘∀‘)

Recommended Menu

This time we ordered:
Kamo Zaru Seiro (Cold Soba with Duck Dipping Broth) — 1,450 yen
Oroshi Ten Kake Soba (Soba with Tempura and Grated Daikon) — 1,200 yen
Kamo Takikomi Gohan (Duck Mixed Rice) — 350 yen

Kamo Zaru Seiro — served in a beautiful two-tiered seiro basket.
I got to taste a little ^^

The texture is gentle and incredibly delicious (*´▽`*)
The duck-based dipping broth is rich with savory dashi flavor — comforting and warming to the soul.Just as we were finishing, they brought out soba-yu (the hot water used to cook the soba) ☺
It was my first time trying it — what a fresh experience to discover this traditional way of enjoying soba ^^

Oroshi Ten Kake Soba
You might wonder, “Wait, where’s the soba?” — that’s how generous the tempura portion is!
The tempura platter features a luxurious lineup: green beans, yamaimo (mountain yam), eggplant, maitake mushroom, and shrimp.

Don’t worry — the smooth, slurpable soba is absolutely there too (*´▽`*)
Both the hand-cut noodles and the tempura are simply outstanding!

Kamo Takikomi Gohan (Duck Mixed Rice)
The portion is perfect for kids — even my 3-year-old gobbled it right up ♪

We arrived a bit past noon, and as it turned out, our family finished off the last of the noodles for the day — they closed up shop after we left!
If you absolutely want to try the soba here, I highly recommend going early!!

It was a luxurious, grown-up moment of pure relaxation ☺
Thank you for the wonderful meal!
