Introducing Komeko

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
a delightful chiffon cake shop located in Ichinomiya, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture —
【Komeko】 🍇

You’ll find the shop on the former site of an old girls’ school, just a short stroll from Aso Shrine and the historic Monzen-machi shopping street.
It’s a peaceful spot surrounded by lush nature — perfect for escaping the bustle of city life 😀

Nearby, you’ll also find a stylish café and a kanzarashi (sweet rice ball) shop ☆

Just look at that entrance — even the sign is
absolutely adorable!!

The little girl illustration is just too cute to handle ☆

And the mailbox, the signage, every single detail is
kAWAII!!!!!!!

This month’s seasonal chiffon cake special is
Pione Grape & Mascarpone.

Since the flavor changes every month, you can’t help but want to collect them all 😆

Now, let’s step inside!
The moment you enter, a chalkboard with charming illustrations welcomes you 😍

There’s chalk available too, so kids must have drawn some of these themselves 😄

The chalkboard introduces the shop in beautifully readable handwriting 😃
Every little detail is just too charming!!!

There’s a single table inside, so you can enjoy your chiffon cake right in the shop 🎵

Through the glass, you can see steamed chiffon cups on display 🥰
For an extra 100 yen, you can have cream added inside.

Trust me, you’ll want it! It’s absolutely delicious!!

True to its name (“Komeko” means rice flour in Japanese), the chiffon cakes are made with 100% rice flour — naturally gluten-free!

There’s a coffee machine set up next to the register and in the back ☕️
The second you walk in, the aroma of fresh coffee hits you 😆

I wish I could send this scent through the screen…

The husband bakes the chiffon cakes while his wife brews the coffee — what a lovely team ☕︎

The drink menu is displayed right by the register 😃
Everything looks absolutely delicious 🥰

Outside, crystal-clear water flows nearby — so soothing ☆

You can dine inside, but there are also two outdoor tables if you prefer fresh air 😀
They even provide traditional mosquito coils — so even pesky bugs won’t bother you!

And the best part — every item is also available for takeaway!

First up — Plain Chiffon Sandwich — 480 yen
The chiffon cake is incredibly light and fluffy, with cream that’s just the right sweetness —
an absolutely perfect pairing with the fresh fruit!
And look at that generous fruit topping ☆☆

Chocolate Steamed Chiffon Sandwich — 480 yen
Pione Grape Steamed Chiffon Sandwich — 550 yen

Both the chocolate and Kyoho grape were out-of-this-world delicious!!
The Kyoho grape is a limited-time flavor for this month, so I made sure to savor every bite 😆

Each chiffon sandwich features beautifully layered toppings,
offering a delightful mix of textures with just the right balance of sweetness —
you’ll want to keep coming back for more and more!

Surrounded by nature, welcomed by the lovely owners, and refreshed by the sound of clear flowing water — kids will absolutely love it here too!
