Introducing Age Pizza Wadachi

Hello everyone, this is Gachako, writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m excited to introduce a fantastic food truck called
[Age Pizza Wadachi].

Based in the scenic Aso region, this mobile kitchen travels to events all across Kumamoto Prefecture, serving up their signature deep-fried pizzas to hungry locals and tourists alike.

This is truly a family operation — the owners’ children were waiting in the back, helping out and supporting the team.
Lunchtime brings huge lines, so I timed my visit a little later to avoid the rush.
Their sleek, all-black food truck is incredibly stylish.

It’s polished to such a brilliant shine that you can see the surrounding scenery reflecting off it!

This was actually my first time trying deep-fried pizza.
Pizza… fried in oil?
It felt like stepping into uncharted territory, and I couldn’t wait to taste it.

Here’s the menu:

Margherita (cheese, tomato sauce, basil, olive oil) 650 yen
Gorgonzola (cheese, gorgonzola, picante) 700 yen
Spinach (cheese, spinach, basil, olive oil) 650 yen
Arrabbiata (cheese, tomato sauce, spicy salami, garlic, oregano) 700 yen
Genovese (cheese, basil sauce, salami, asparagus, olive oil) 700 yen
Keema Curry (cheese, keema curry, oregano, olive oil) 700 yen

Wow! So many tempting choices — it’s hard to decide!

Age Pizza Wadachi: Recommended Menu Item

I went with the classic Margherita (cheese, tomato sauce, basil, olive oil) for 650 yen.
Everything is made fresh to order, so it arrives piping hot straight from the fryer.

The outside is incredibly crispy. Who knew that frying pizza dough could create such a satisfying crunch!
It’s larger than the palm of your hand — you can barely hold it with one hand!

I tried to hold it up to show the size, but —
“Hot! Hot! Ouch!”

When I broke it in half, the cheese came oozing out in a glorious melt.
So this is what age pizza is — a regular pizza folded in half, with the toppings tucked inside like a giant gyoza!
What a discovery.
Time to dig in!

Crispy on the outside, wonderfully chewy on the inside.
Hot, gooey cheese came flooding out with every bite,
making it absolute heaven for any cheese lover.

I also tried their specialty cold-brew coffee, made with pure spring water sourced from Mt. Aso.
Coffee menu:
<HOT>
Original Blend 300 yen
Quel Chance 350 yen
100% Arabica 350 yen
<ICE>
Aso Spring Water Cold Brew Coffee 500 yen
Aso Spring Water Cold Brew Café Latte 550 yen

I ordered the Aso Spring Water Cold Brew Café Latte.
They use eco-friendly paper straws — a nice sustainable touch.
Smooth, clean, and beautifully refreshing, it went down so easily that I drank it right up.
The combination of this coffee with the deep-fried pizza is absolutely divine.

I’ll definitely be back for more!
