Introducing Coco de Nadir

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer.

Today I’d love to introduce you to a charming little spot in Kokufu, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City โ€”
“Coco de Nadir”.

Hidden inside an unassuming apartment building, this lovely cafe has the kind of atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret.

There’s one parking spot available outside the building.
If it’s taken, no worries โ€” there are paid parking lots nearby that you can use too.

The moment I stepped inside, I couldn’t help but gasp โ€” “Wow!”

The owner’s warm and cheerful personality immediately puts you at ease,
while the artistic, gallery-like interior practically draws you in.

That’s because the owner of Coco de Nadir is a professional graphic designer and painter by trade.
The walls and tabletops are decorated with original works created by the owner herself.

It really does feel like stepping into a private art exhibition โ€” a moment of quiet wonder.

There’s also a sofa seating area, making it family-friendly for those visiting with little ones.
If you’re planning a get-together with friends or fellow moms, you can even reserve in advance and have the table layout rearranged
so you can craft a space that’s just right for your group.

Coco de Nadir’s Recommended Menu

Here’s the menu.
There are also special Friday- and Saturday-only menus, so be sure to check their Instagram for the latest offerings.

This time, I went with the weekend-only menu.
(The special menu changes every week.)

It was a luxurious half-and-half plate of penne and gratin.

The penne came with melt-in-your-mouth eggplant and just the right kick of spice โ€” hearty and deeply satisfying.
Every bite is more addictive than the last, and by the time the plate is empty, you’ll already be craving seconds.

The creamy gratin was packed with pumpkin, bacon, and a generous layer of melted cheese โ€” a dish loved by adults and kids alike.
Add the soft-boiled egg on top for extra richness and you’ll find yourself melting into pure bliss.

Paired with the set was a refreshing Appletiser.
You can also choose an alcoholic option, but since I was driving, I went with this.
It’s free of added sugar and preservatives, so it’s a safe choice for kids too.

And here we have the [Homemade Curry].
It’s topped with raisins over rice โ€” and during preparation, the staff kindly checks whether you’re okay with raisins. Such a thoughtful touch!

And here is the [Homemade Dango-jiru] โ€” Kumamoto’s beloved dumpling soup.

The hearty soup is loaded with vegetables and served alongside a salmon-mixed rice ball.
This is comfort food at its Japanese best โ€” a lunch that warms both heart and body.

To finish off, you’ll be treated to coffee and a small sweet.
It was a truly satisfying lunch from start to finish.

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from everyday life while exploring Kumamoto, why not stop by and treat yourself to a relaxing afternoon at Coco de Nadir?
