Introducing COSMOS CAFE

Hello, this is Gussan, a writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m excited to introduce COSMOS CAFE, located in Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You may remember the Kumamoto Prefectural Football Center COSMOS, where SaruKuma hosted an event last month alongside the grand opening ceremony.

COSMOS CAFE is a brand-new cafe that opened right there on December 1, 2022.

Every time I visited for event meetings, I’d peer through the window thinking, “When will it open?” So when I finally received an invitation, I rushed over with great excitement. Let me show you what I found!
The cafe is located where the blue circle is marked on the map.
It’s on the opposite side from the Kashima Town Comprehensive Sports Park visible from the road, so first-time visitors might find it a bit tricky to locate.
Be sure to check the map carefully!
The parking lot is right next to the cafe.
As you’d expect from a cafe inside a soccer complex, parking is incredibly generous.
The main lot alone holds 400 cars, and the lot closest to the cafe fits about 100 cars.

While some venues require carpooling due to limited parking,
you won’t have any such worries here.
Upon arrival, you’re greeted by spacious, brand-new soccer pitches.
The view is so refreshing it makes you want to take a deep breath.
I visited on a weekday afternoon, but in the evenings and on weekends the place comes alive with soccer practices and matches.
And here’s the entrance to
COSMOS CAFE.
Beyond the cafe, you’ll find soccer-related offices and a coworking space.
Restrooms are available both on the soccer pitch side and inside the cafe itself.
Now, let’s step inside COSMOS CAFE.
Freshly opened, everything is sparkling and brand new!

This cafe is a collaboration between “Local Gain,” a company that energizes Kumamoto’s sports scene throughout the prefecture, and “Omoken Park,” a beloved cafe on Kamitori Shopping Street. With this powerhouse pairing, COSMOS CAFE is more than just a cafe — it’s a space brimming with future possibilities.
The display case is filled with mouth-watering puddings and baked sweets.
From the indoor tables, you can see the lawn area where SaruKuma hosted its event.

There’s also a nursery school called “Cosmos Nursery” on the grounds, and watching the little ones eat lunch on the grass and run around playing is truly heartwarming.

Cafe menu items are available for takeout, so on nice days, dining outside is a wonderful option!
Children’s chairs are also available inside.
A delightful touch for families with little ones.At the entrance to COSMOS CAFE,
you’ll find a corner selling soccer-related goods.
And here’s the best part!
Great news for locals who’ve ever waited around at a coin laundry on a rainy day.
COSMOS CAFE has its own coin laundry attached.
Now you can sip a cup of tea and enjoy some “me time” while you wait for your laundry to finish!

COSMOS CAFE Recommended Menu

Here’s the COSMOS CAFE menu.
Lunch options include the Hamburger Bento (¥600) and Dry Curry Bento (¥600).
Soft drinks start at ¥250, and hot coffee is ¥400.

There’s also a wonderful selection of treats — like rice flour sweets and Minamiaso brown rice cookies —
that parents can feel good about giving to their children!
This time, I tried the Hamburger Bento (¥600).
The sticker on the lunch box features the COSMOS logo.
Simple and adorable! The moment I opened the box, the rich aroma of demi-glace sauce filled the air. The colors are beautifully vibrant too.
The white rice is fresh new-harvest rice from Mizukami Village.
COSMOS CAFE plans to leverage its network across Kumamoto Prefecture to offer original menu items, snacks that athletes and children can enjoy with peace of mind, and seasonal dishes that celebrate fresh local ingredients. Definitely keep an eye out for what they’ll serve next!
The hamburger steak is fluffy and tender — exactly the kind of dish kids love.
The demi-glace sauce pairs wonderfully with the white rice.
For dessert, I tried:
Rice Flour Chiffon Cake (Plain) — ¥350
Lemon Cake — ¥250

Rich Pudding — ¥250
The rice flour chiffon cake is gluten-free, with a delicate texture topped with whipped cream — the perfect light bite after a meal.
The lemon cake is a pound cake generously infused with locally grown Kumamoto lemons. Fluffy with just the right amount of tartness.

The rich pudding looked simple at first, but the moment I dug into it, a glorious caramel sauce welled up from the bottom — a delightful surprise!
For anyone who insists on caramel sauce with their pudding (like me), this is heaven.
It’s slightly firm and surprisingly satisfying — kids will love it too.

Newly opened and full of promise, COSMOS CAFE welcomes everyone — not just soccer fans. Whether you’re stopping by while your laundry runs or simply looking for a relaxing lunch and tea spot in Kumamoto, this cafe is well worth a visit.
