Today’s spotlight is on Amakusa Pearl Garden, located in Matsushima, Kamiamakusa City — a wonderful seaside complex you don’t want to miss.

Have you heard about Amakusa Pearl Garden & Sea Donuts Underwater Aquarium? This stylish complex opened on December 22, 2021, and has quickly become one of the most popular family destinations along the Amakusa coast.

Right next door is the famous Resola Terrace shopping village, and just beyond that, Mio Camino — a popular spot where many visitors were enjoying outdoor BBQ during our visit!

Hungry? Pearl Garden has two restaurants to choose from: a donburi-tei serving fresh seafood rice bowls (kaisendon), and a buffet-style restaurant offering a variety of dishes.

The souvenir shop is spacious and sparkling clean — a perfect place to pick up Kumamoto-themed gifts and aquarium goods!

You’ll find an excellent selection of aquarium-themed merchandise, plus a small game corner for some extra fun.

There’s also a hands-on activity corner — a great way for kids to learn while having fun.

Don’t miss the schedule board for sea turtle and dolphin experience times — plan your visit around these to maximize the fun!

There’s also a stylish café with breathtaking ocean views — the perfect spot to take a break.

Their colorful, refreshing drinks looked absolutely delicious — ideal for a hot summer day in Kyushu!

Just as I was thinking “Pearl Garden is amazing!” and heading toward the aquarium, I spotted Kumamon — Kumamoto Prefecture’s beloved black bear mascot!

And the biggest surprise? There’s a full playground!

And get this — the Kumamon-themed trampoline is completely free!

The trampoline is open to children ages 3 through elementary school.

It’s incredibly popular, but be mindful of the heat during summer months — bring water and sun protection!

You’ll also find a Tarzan rope swing for active fun.

The playground features adorable original equipment designed around sea creature themes.

The garden eel (chinanago) jungle gym is just too cute for words!

How often do you find a sparkling playground with a stunning ocean view? It’s truly the best of both worlds.

The shuttle bus to Sea Donuts Aquarium waits right in front of the playground area — what a charming, convenient setup! ♡
