A SaruKuma writer visits “Neko Café MICO” in Nishihara, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, in person. Prices start from 220 yen, and we cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Welcome to Neko Café MICO

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Binako, a writer for SaruKuma, here to share another Kumamoto gem with you.

Today’s spotlight is on
Nishihara, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, home to
“Neko Café MICO” — a charming cat café right along the bypass road.

I’d been eyeing this place from the road for ages, so I finally took the plunge for my very first cat café experience!

I highly recommend making a reservation in advance.
There are some house rules posted on the door — make sure to read them carefully before entering.

At MICO, socks are required for hygiene reasons.
If you forgot yours, no worries — you can buy a pair at the shop for 220 yen ♪Once inside, you’ll first wash and sanitize your hands at the sink.

Here’s the price menu.
Beyond the basic one-order course, you can choose from:
・Drink Set Course
・Sweets Set Course
・Penne & Drink Set Course
Kids get a fantastic deal: 200 yen discount & a free cat treat service.

This time, we went with the 90-minute Drink Course and chose the cat treat service.

What Makes Neko Café MICO Special

Get ready for some serious relaxation.
Surrounded by adorable cats, you simply can’t help but unwind.

As far as the eye can see —
cats, kitties, NEKO!
Each cat has its own personality, so you’ll never get tired of watching them.

My son was busy building a little house for the cats.

And look — a kitty actually moved into his handcrafted home!
Needless to say, my son was over the moon (lol)

There are sibling cats here too, and here’s a fun fact:
some take after their mom, others their dad — even their fur textures are different!
You can really feel the difference when you pet them ( *´艸`)

Then came treat time!
We were given two bags of crunchy cat snacks.

Place about four pieces in your palm and offer them up.

Watching them munch away is absolutely heart-melting.
My son was a little shy at first,
but by the end he was feeding cats like a total pro!

I thought 90 minutes might feel long,
but the time absolutely flew by.
The cats are split into Team A and Team B,
so come back on different days to meet them all ♪
