Introducing licht coffee & cakes (Licht)

Hello, this is Miruku, writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m introducing a wonderful cafe located in Kasuga, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City:
[licht coffee & cakes (Licht)].

Although it’s right near Kumamoto Station, just stepping a little away from the station reveals this calming cafe with an atmosphere that doesn’t feel urban at all.

There’s no private parking, but there’s a coin-operated parking lot directly in front of the shop.

Step inside and you’ll discover a beautifully designed space with a natural, organic aesthetic.

The cafe is split between two floors, and the first floor even features terrace seating.

There’s also a slope, making it stroller-friendly for families with little ones.

Here’s the lovely terrace area.

Toward the back, you’ll also find comfortable sofa seating—perfect for visitors with children.

Head up the stairs, and…

…you’ll find the spacious second-floor seating area.

The chairs are nice and wide, so children can sit comfortably too.

My little boy was clearly delighted.

From the second-floor windows, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the Kumamoto Station cityscape.

If a window seat is available, definitely grab one—we highly recommend it! ♪

And here’s the menu!

  • Drip Coffee… 500 yen
  • Americano… 500 yen
  • Cafe Latte… 550 yen
  • Soy Latte… 600 yen
  • Cafe Mocha… 600 yen
  • Hojicha Latte… 550 yen
  • Cascara Latte… 550 yen
  • Cascara Tea… 480 yen
  • Cascara Soda… 520 yen

Kids’ drinks include orange and apple juice (400 yen each) as well.

Beside the register, you’ll find cakes and baked goods for sale.

Order any food item together with your drink, and you’ll get a 100 yen discount.

The cake selection rotates depending on the day, so there’s always something new to discover.

On the first floor, they also sell coffee beans and assorted gift sets—great souvenirs from your Kumamoto trip.

Their top recommendation?
The Cafe Latte Base!

Just mix it with milk, and you can easily enjoy authentic cafe lattes at home.

They also sell individually packaged drip coffee bags.

An absolute treat for coffee lovers!

At licht (Licht), the focus is on light-roast coffee, which delivers a clean, crisp flavor.

Of course, dark roast is also available—just let the friendly staff know your preferences and they’ll happily help you find the perfect coffee for your taste.

Coffee accessories are sold here as well, so you can recreate the cafe’s flavors in your own home.

licht coffee & cakes (Licht) Recommended Menu

As a dairy-loving fan, I (Miruku) ordered the Cafe Latte (500 yen)!
For cake, I went with the Pistachio Opera (500 yen).

The Pistachio Opera features pistachio buttercream layered with delicate raspberry notes—an elegant, refined flavor.

Pistachio lovers won’t be able to resist this one.

I also tried the Chocolate Pound Cake (420 yen).

The generous chunks of nuts add a wonderful texture, and the firm cake is only lightly sweetened—a perfect match for coffee!

Why not enjoy a refined moment by the window with a beautiful view?
We hope you’ll stop by licht coffee & cakes during your visit to Kumamoto!
