BloomCafe in Kikuyō Town: The Ultimate Family-Friendly Café Near Hikari no Mori with Kids’ Space, Free Diapers & Tuesday Soft-Serve Treats!
2026.04.18

Welcome to BloomCafe
Hello fellow travelers! It’s Aikero, your Saru-Kuma writer, here with an absolute gem for families exploring Kumamoto.
Today I’m thrilled to introduce a brand-new café tucked away in Kikuyō Town, Kikuchi District:
BloomCafe
Just a 2-minute drive from Yume Town Hikari no Mori shopping mall, this newly opened café has fully equipped kids’ space and is perfect for families with little ones!
The concept is simple but powerful: “a place where moms in the thick of parenting can rediscover a little time for themselves.”
Staff happily hold babies for you, coloring books are available, and free diapers and baby wipes are stocked for emergencies.
With delicious lunches and a calming atmosphere, it’s the kind of place moms (and dads, and solo travelers!) come back to again and again.
Beyond being a café, it also functions as a community hub — supporting youth employment and serving as a welcoming “third place” for the local community.
There are 5 parking spaces right in front of the shop.
Additional parking is available nearby, so just ask the staff if the front lot is full.
The bright, wood-toned interior is warm and welcoming — and yes, strollers roll through with ease!
Seating is all table-style (no traditional tatami floor seating).
The owner intentionally added plenty of comfy sofa seats so guests can truly relax.
It’s the kind of thoughtful detail that says “we really care about your visit.”
This particular table can be curtained off for a private-room feel — perfect if you want extra privacy.
There are several kids’ chair options, including bouncers for babies who can’t sit up yet!
This means parents can actually enjoy their meal hands-free instead of juggling a baby in their arms.
Tucked further inside is a dedicated kids’ play space!
Finding a café in Japan with a real kids’ space is rare, so this is genuinely exciting.
The TV stand is wrapped in cushioning, the floor mat is fluffy and soft — every safety detail has been carefully considered.
The space is for children under 6, with parental supervision required during use.
There’s one special table where you can keep an eye on your kids in the play space while staying seated. If you’re visiting with little ones, this is THE table to request!
Reservations can be made for any seat — by phone, Instagram DM, or in person. If you have a preference (“a curtained private-style table” or “the seat next to the kids’ space”), let them know early!
(That’s exactly what we did when we booked.)
The sofa-seat tables also have matching kids’ chairs.
For smaller children, these chairs may actually be easier to use.
And yes — there’s even a private nursing room!
Plus a diaper-changing station!
And we’ve all been there — “Oh no, I forgot the diapers, and the spare in the car is gone too!”
For exactly those moments, BloomCafe stocks free diapers in sizes S through L!
And they even provide free baby wipes and disposal bags!
Amazing, right?!
And it gets even better…
The restroom even has a baby seat.
And the door lock is mounted high up — out of little hands’ reach. Every parent everywhere is nodding in approval right now.
Okay, there’s so much to highlight, but let’s finally talk menu!
・Croissant Sandwich — 1,200 yen
・UOQ Dog — 1,280 yen
(Margherita or Cheese)
・Hot Sandwich (Ham & Cheese) — 1,280 yen
・Roast Beef Bowl (limited to 10 servings/day) — 1,480 yen
・French Toast — 1,000 yen
Get this!
Free drinks for children 6 and under!
And more!
10% off your total bill when dining with elementary-aged or younger kids!
And then!
Every Tuesday from 14:00 to 16:00 (takeout only):
Free soft-serve ice cream for middle school students and under! (While supplies last)
There’s still more!
Weekends only: free chocolate fondue for kids 6 and under!
…Doesn’t that just blow your mind?
The dessert and drink menu is also impressively wide — perfect for an afternoon coffee break!
Takeout is available too!
BloomCafe Recommended Menu
We ordered the French Toast and the Croissant Sandwich!
This is how it arrives — beautiful, right?!
The afternoon-tea aesthetic gets you excited before you’ve even taken a bite!
The set comes with a main, salad with choice of dressing, side dish, and dessert — pretty luxurious for the price!
The roast beef comes from a Fukuoka butcher with over 100 years of history.
The ingredients are seriously top-quality.
And as you can see in the photo — look at that volume!
Thick, generous slices, juicy and tender with every bite.
We were torn between this and the rice bowl, but this was more than satisfying!
Beyond the roast beef, every single dish was delicious — even the kids cleaned their plates!
A dedicated kids’ menu wasn’t available during our visit but is planned for the near future.
Our kids enjoyed the French Toast and cheesecake instead.
I had been wondering what this dish was — turns out it’s Greek yogurt!
Its thick, creamy texture and refreshing tang are the perfect post-meal palate cleanser.
Add a little strawberry sauce and it transforms into something almost like a no-bake cheesecake.
Now, kids being kids — they often eat for two minutes and then want to play.
If they’re old enough to play in the kids’ space alone, you can keep an eye on them while still enjoying your meal. But with younger kids, that’s not always possible.
Many parents end up scarfing down food without actually tasting it. Sound familiar?
But here, the staff actually play with your children.
Especially if you’re parenting solo, sometimes you just need someone to watch your kid for five minutes!
“When we were raising our own children, we never had a place where we could really relax,” the staff told us.
“That’s why, while our staff watch the kids, we want moms to slow down and actually enjoy their food.”
It’s not formal childcare, but having someone interact with your child for a few minutes is a huge help!
The staff engage so naturally that even shy parents will feel comfortable accepting the help.
“Do you girls like coloring? Which one would you like?” The staff brought several pictures for our kids to color.
The kids were happily occupied while we waited for our food, and the moms got to actually chat over the meal — what a treat.
The owner mentioned that the soft-serve ice cream was carefully selected from many tastings — so we had to order it.
It exceeded expectations and the kids were thrilled — definitely a great choice!
And it comes with three toppings you can sprinkle on yourself!
A dish that adds “fun” to eating wins kids’ hearts instantly.
The kids took turns adding every topping and turned it into the most over-the-top dessert ever, ha!
The flavor itself is rich and milky with a clean, refreshing finish.
The name BloomCafe carries a beautiful meaning:
like a flower in bloom, the owner hopes smiles will bloom in this space.
The kids’ bursts of laughter, the moms’ calm smiles as they watch them play, the gentle smiles of staff who quietly support every guest — it’s a place truly overflowing with smiles.
“I just want to talk to another adult.”
“I need to get out of the house for a change.”
When those feelings hit, BloomCafe is a place where you can simply come, be heard, and feel welcome.
Whoever you are, whenever you visit, you’ll be greeted warmly — so come without hesitation.
Many moms on parental leave have said “I wish I’d known about this place sooner!”
For family-friendly café lunches around Hikari no Mori, this is our absolute top recommendation.
And of course, it’s not just for families — solo travelers, couples, and groups of any age will find it just as welcoming.
From the warm hospitality and cozy atmosphere to the carefully crafted dishes, every detail of BloomCafe will leave you wanting to come back!
