About Musashi no Mori Coffee Kengun

Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m introducing a wonderful spot located in Numayamazu, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
Musashi no Mori Coffee Kengun Branch.
The location was previously a Gusto family restaurant, and it’s now been transformed into Musashi no Mori Coffee, part of the same restaurant group!
This was actually my first visit!
It’s easy to drop in solo, yet you can fully enjoy the café atmosphere with great menu options and a wonderfully comfortable interior.
The convenient location and welcoming vibe also make it perfect for casual lunches with friends or fellow parents♪

I visited on a weekday, but the place quickly filled up around lunchtime, which shows just how popular it is! Σ(・ω・ノ)ノ
Since the building was originally a family restaurant, the parking lot is spacious with plenty of spots available — a huge plus!
A few things to note — the following are not permitted:
・Large group seminars or gatherings
・Long-duration sales calls or solicitations
・Phone or computer use at volumes that disturb other guests

Please be mindful of these rules during your visit.
Also, during busy hours, there’s a 2-hour seating limit.
There’s seating behind the register,
counter seats,
and table seating for 2 or 4 people.
Did you notice?
The seat backs are extra tall, so you barely notice the people sitting in front of or behind you.
It creates a private space where you can really focus on work or conversation!
They even have sofa seating!
The backs are slightly reclined, so you can really kick back and relax♡

It’s hard to believe this used to be a Gusto — the transformation is amazing!
Free Wi-Fi and power outlets are available!
Perfect for travelers who want to get some work done♫
Next to the register, there’s a beautiful Japanese tea corner that almost makes you wonder if you’ve stepped into a tea specialty shop.
Children’s chairs are also available (^^)/
The restroom is equipped with a diaper-changing station!
The space is a bit open, but having a changing table at all is so appreciated when traveling with little ones.
And amazingly, the men’s restroom also has a diaper-changing station!
We couldn’t take a photo, of course, but this is incredibly helpful for traveling dads too!
Now for the menu! (^^)/
There are too many delicious options to introduce them all (>_<), so let me share the great-value set we ordered♫

・Forest Special Set: from ¥1,738
(Main plate, dessert, and drink)

For the main, you can choose from 9 popular options including pasta, hamburger steak, curry, and gratin.
Then add pancakes or tiramisu for dessert and a drink — fantastic value♪
Orders are placed via tablet (^^)/
When ordering, you can choose whether to have your dessert and drinks served with the meal or afterward.
If you choose afterward, just press the order button on the tablet whenever you’re ready!
Drink refills are available♫
Your second drink comes at a discount (^^)/
You can even choose a different drink the second time around.

Recommended Menu Items at Musashi no Mori Coffee Kengun

In the front is the taco rice, and in the back is the beef stew and shrimp double doria!
Looking at this photo, doesn’t it just scream stylish café? (*’ω’*)
The portions are generous, the colors are gorgeous, and the presentation is so chic!
The taco rice has a slight kick of spice and is loaded with fresh vegetables♪
Sliced almonds and avocado add an extra touch of elegance.
Piping hot, creamy shrimp gratin♡
I also wanted to try the beef stew, so I splurged a bit with the upgrade (*’ω’*)
Unlike the creamy gratin, the beef stew has a deep, rich flavor.
Both were delicious — totally satisfying♫
The salad comes with a refreshing lemon dressing.
Even the dressing choice feels stylish!
A small soup is also included with the set!
There were two dessert options, so we ordered one of each.
The pancakes can be ordered cold or warm — the warm version takes a little extra time to prepare.
This time we went with the cold pancakes.
You can pour as much syrup as you like, making it easy to adjust the sweetness to your taste♫
Cold but never tough — these pancakes are wonderfully soft.
The texture is light and airy, and the batter itself isn’t very sweet.
It pairs perfectly with the maple syrup♪
The slightly bitter tiramisu is so smooth and moist, you barely need to chew.
The portion size is just right — perfect for satisfying that post-meal sweet craving♡
For drinks we ordered iced coffee and hot blend coffee.
Both come in generous-sized glasses — plenty to enjoy!

Since I went without much info beforehand, the whole experience was such a pleasant surprise♪

The staff were also wonderful — attentive and considerate, often asking if I’d like a water refill. Truly excellent service!
Payment is at a self-checkout register♪
My first visit to Musashi no Mori Coffee was a total win♫
Since they open at 7:00 AM, I’d love to return for breakfast next time!

It’s easy to see why this place is so popular.
The pricing makes it accessible for a casual outing, and the comfort level is top-notch!
If you’re visiting Kumamoto, definitely add this spot to your list (^^)/
