Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m taking you to Maruo-machi in Amakusa City,
[olüolü] — a brand-new cafe you’ll want on your Kumamoto itinerary.

This warm, community-rooted cafe has just opened its doors!
I dropped by on a weekday and the place was buzzing with guests of all ages ♫
With a kids’ room and a diaper-changing station, it’s an ideal lunch spot for families traveling with little ones (^^)/

The name olüolü is a charming blend of “oru” (the local Amakusa dialect word for “to be / to stay”) and the Hawaiian word meaning “comfortable, pleasant.”
The smiling “ü” is adorable, and the meaning behind the name is just lovely ♪
Parking is generous — there’s a large lot right next to the cafe, and you can also use the parking area at the TAIYO supermarket across the street.
Outside, you’ll find a beautiful terrace ♫
Good news for dog lovers — pets are welcome on the terrace only!
A perfect spot to relax with your furry travel companion.
There are plenty of seats inside, but as you can see, the cafe was packed!
Lots of groups were enjoying their afternoon together.
Toward the back, you’ll find a kids’ room — every traveling parent’s dream.
There were other guests using it, so I could only photograph part of it, but there are two tables inside.
Parents are kindly asked to keep an eye on their kids to prevent any accidents.
There’s also counter seating along the terrace side.
Great news for solo travelers — it’s super easy to settle in on your own ♫
Counter seats come with power outlets.
Free Wi-Fi is available too — perfect for digital nomads or quick remote work sessions!
What is “Minna no Hako” (Everyone’s Box)?
It’s a flexible meeting and event space — available in two sizes for everything from meetings and seminars to pop-up shops!
This is the smaller “Hako” (box).
And here’s the larger room.
It’s equipped with a big monitor, audio system, and a wall-sized whiteboard — endless possibilities!
Inside the cafe, there’s also a corner selling local goods and sweets — a great souvenir hunt!

The Kimura Pan bakery is just a 10-minute drive from olüolü.
A wonderful chance to discover hidden local gems!
They also feature handcrafted items from Amakusa Special Needs School and processed goods made by Kumamoto Prefectural Amakusa Takushin High School.
The banpeiyu citrus syrup looked so tempting — I really should have grabbed a bottle (´･_･`)
There were lots of cute mugs and other items that would make perfect souvenirs or gifts ♫

It’s a lovely lineup of light meals (^^)/
There’s also a great selection of nuggets, fries, and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) à la carte.
And seriously — adding a salad and soup set for just ¥200? That’s a deal!
Drinks include coffee, café latte, matcha, hojicha, and chai latte.
There are oat milk, almond milk, and decaf coffee options too — there’s something for everyone ♪

The colorful lemonades and shakes look tempting as well (*’ω’*)

They even have a kids’ menu!

They have four high chairs and four height-adjusting cushions — so reassuring for families ♫
The bathroom near the kids’ room is fully equipped with a diaper-changing station.
And how cute are those flower-patterned tiles ♡
There are baskets for your belongings and self-service trolleys (the cafe uses a self-serve system).
It’s such a thoughtful setup for parents holding their little ones and for elderly guests too.

Recommended Menu Items at olüolü

I went with the Teriyaki Chicken set ♫
With the salad and soup set added for just ¥200, my total came to ¥500 — incredible value!
With food prices going up everywhere, I almost worried for them. lol
Just look at the size of that teriyaki chicken!
Honestly, at this price I expected thin slices — what a happy surprise!

The chicken is plump and juicy, and the savory teriyaki pairs beautifully with the fresh, slightly tangy cabbage.
The golden-toasted bread adds a touch of sweetness, making each bite absolutely delicious!
The soup is loaded with vegetables too — adding the salad and soup set for ¥200 is an absolute must! (I’m telling you!)
No wonder this place is packed — comfortable, delicious, and affordable, what more could you want?

And get this — they’re open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, so it’s perfect for a morning coffee, an afternoon break during your Amakusa sightseeing, or a relaxing dinner after a day of exploring!
It’s clearly a beloved gathering place for locals,
but tourists will feel right at home too — especially families looking for a warm, welcoming spot ♪
