Introducing Keika Ramen Tokuou Branch

Hello, travelers! This is Asukarando, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce a spot located in Shimosuzurikawa, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
Keika Ramen Tokuou Branch.

Kumamoto is famous for its many ramen shops!
Among them, Keika Ramen is a longtime favorite — and my kids absolutely love it. So when this brand-new branch opened, we couldn’t wait to check it out!

The huge sign with the iconic “Keika” (桂花) characters greets you right away!
In Chinese, “Keika” means osmanthus (kinmokusei) — a flower famous for its sweet, captivating fragrance.
The name reflects two heartfelt wishes: that the rich aroma of the soup and chashu (braised pork) would draw people in just like the scent of osmanthus, and that the shop would be filled with countless smiles — from customers, partners, and staff alike — like a tree in full bloom.
The founder was a woman, and that gentle, welcoming spirit lives on in the name.

And of course, when you talk about Kumamoto ramen, you have to talk about mayu!
Often described as “burnt garlic oil,” mayu is actually a fragrant oil made by frying garlic and aromatic vegetables in lard.

Here’s a fun fact: although mayu is now used in nearly every Kumamoto ramen shop, it was Keika Ramen that originally created it!

The parking lot is nice and spacious, right in front of the shop — easy to park even for first-time visitors (^^)

Inside, Keika Ramen has a bright, welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for families. There’s both counter seating and table seating (^^)

You order using a ticket vending machine — a classic Japanese ramen shop experience! (^^)

Cashless payment is accepted, which makes things super convenient for visitors (*^.^*)

Of course, we had to go for the classic…
Keika Ramen!!

Itadakimasu! (Let’s eat!) (^O^)

The noodles soak up the rich broth beautifully — so flavorful you’ll want to slurp up every last bite (^O^)

The Keika Ramen broth is so delicious that even my kids drained every last drop!

And then there’s the chashu (roast pork).
Absolutely incredible!!

We added the fried rice set as well (*^.^*)

The fried rice is light, fluffy, and perfectly seasoned — a great pairing with ramen that doesn’t feel heavy. My kids loved it too! \(^_^)(^_^)/

And we got our 2 free chashu pieces from the Instagram follow promo — yes!!

Add them to your ramen, and instantly upgrade it to chashu-men!!
This deal is too good to pass up!

Don’t forget to follow them when you visit ☆

There are also kid-friendly utensils available — a thoughtful touch for families!

My daughter, who’s a huge fan of Keika Ramen, ended up just lifting the bowl to drink the broth straight to the very last drop! lol

Did you notice something else?

Each ramen bowl is served on a non-slip tray — so kids are less likely to spill, and the table stays nice and clean from broth splatters (^3^)/
