Introducing Teppan Okonomiyaki Harenohi
Hello, travelers! This is Miruku, a writer for [SaruKuma], and I’m currently in my final month of pregnancy.
Today, I’d love to introduce you to Ikeda in Kita Ward, Kumamoto City, where you’ll find
[Teppan Okonomiyaki Harenohi].

This brand-new restaurant opened on February 15, 2024, and the exterior gives off a wonderfully homey, welcoming vibe.
Being in my late pregnancy, my appetite has been through the roof (haha)!
On this particular day, I was absolutely craving okonomiyaki, so I headed straight to the newly opened Harenohi!

There’s parking right in front of the shop (2 spaces).
If those spots are full, additional parking is available nearby—just ask the owner for directions!
Now, let’s head inside!
So homey and warm.
I absolutely love this kind of atmosphere!
And the smell of teppanyaki sizzling on the grill? Pure heaven.
Inside, you’ll find counter seating,

as well as table seating!

There’s also a restroom inside.

Since I visited shortly after the grand opening, the shop was decorated with beautiful celebratory flowers—such a lovely sight.
I was starving, so let’s dive into the menu!

The menu is handwritten, which adds to that cozy, homey charm.
The three main dishes are Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba, and Modanyaki.
There are tons of toppings to choose from, so you can mix and match all kinds of flavors!
They also offer a great selection of side dishes and snacks!
And of course, a full drink menu too.

Ramune (Japanese marble soda) — such a nostalgic treat!

They have kid-sized tableware,
and high chairs available too.
Reservations are accepted, so if you’re coming with kids, I’d recommend booking ahead to secure a table seat.

They accept many payment methods—super convenient for travelers.

The shop’s original logo is also adorable.
Recommended Dishes at Teppan Okonomiyaki Harenohi

First and foremost: the okonomiyaki!
Pictured here is the Butatama (Pork & Egg Okonomiyaki) (¥720).

Irresistible!
Crisp, crunchy cabbage packed with juicy pork, paired with the shop’s signature original sauce—an absolutely perfect combination.
Pure happiness in every bite!

Next up, the Cheese & Egg Yakisoba (¥950).
This one is a dream for cheese lovers and a huge hit with kids!
I just couldn’t put down my chopsticks!
Even my baby was kicking happily inside my belly! (haha)

And here we have the Modanyaki (¥800).
Modanyaki is a Kansai-style okonomiyaki combined with yakisoba noodles—two beloved dishes in one!
Absolutely delicious.
It might sound like carb overload with both batter and noodles, but trust me, it disappears in seconds!

Even my little one had the biggest smile.
One of the best things about teppanyaki is how easy it is to share with the whole family.

Here’s a side dish: Tonpei-yaki (¥420).
It’s a thin omelet wrapped around vegetables and meat—another huge favorite among kids!

For the grown-ups, I personally recommend Sesori (Grilled Chicken Neck) (¥530) as well.
It pairs beautifully with a cold beer—both visually and flavor-wise!
(My husband enjoyed the beer for me this time, haha!)

Takeout is also available!
They’re open from lunchtime, so be sure to stop by and try this incredible okonomiyaki for yourself!
