Introducing Shimanchu Café

Hello everyone! This is Asukarando, writer for SaruKuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful food truck called
【Shimanchu Café】.

The name “Shimanchu Café” caught my attention right away (“shimanchu” means “island people” in the Okinawan dialect), so I had to stop by and chat with the owners — and now I’m sharing all the details with you! (^-^)v

The adorable pink food truck stands out from a distance — you can’t miss it!

As I suspected, the lovely couple running this truck spent many years living on Yoron Island in Okinawa (*^.^*)

Their menu features authentic Okinawan ingredients prepared with real care and dedication!

The First Time I Heard of “Chinbin”

Chinbin is a traditional Okinawan sweet made with brown sugar (kokuto). The owners reinvented it as a crêpe batter, creating a one-of-a-kind “Okinawan-Style Crêpe” you can only find at Shimanchu Café (*^.^*)

Okinawan-Style Crêpes Menu

Chocolate Banana — ¥500

Ice Chocolate Banana — ¥600

Salt Chinsuko (Okinawan shortbread) — ¥500

Strawberry Daifuku — ¥600

Strawberry Crème Brûlée — ¥600

Chocolat Strawberry — ¥500

Nohohon Crêpe — ¥550

Fresh Chocolate (Nama Choco) — ¥600

Salted Caramel — ¥500

Whipped Cream Chinbin — ¥350

If you really want to taste the chinbin itself, the Whipped Cream Chinbin is a fantastic pick! (^3^)/

Even the fresh chocolate and cookies are completely handmade — that level of dedication really shows.

Sata Andagi (Okinawan Doughnuts)

Pack of 5 — ¥200

Pack of 13 — ¥500

Such a generous portion at such a friendly price! (^3^)/

Hot Chocolate — ¥500

Tacos — ¥650

It’s so nice to find savory tacos alongside all the sweet treats! (^3^)/

There’s a “Shimanchu Café” app, and downloading it or following them on Instagram unlocks special discounts! (*^.^*)

Shimanchu Café — Recommended Menu

I ordered the Fresh Chocolate (Nama Choco) and the Chocolate Banana.

The fresh chocolate is handmade too!

And of course, absolutely delicious!

It comes in a generously sized heart shape,

and one bite instantly took me back to those nostalgic Showa-era Valentine’s Day commercials playing in my head… lol

The chinbin (crêpe) made with brown sugar has a slightly brown tint compared to the regular crêpes you might be used to.

One bite and you’ll notice the wonderfully chewy, mochi-like texture — the crêpe itself becomes the star of the show! (^^)

The crispy crêpe topping adds a perfect contrast — totally satisfying and delicious! (^3^)/

I also tried the Sata Andagi (Okinawan doughnuts)!

First impression: they’re dark in color! You can tell right away these are different from any sata andagi I’ve had before.

The brown sugar coating is so generous it sticks to your fingers — in the best way possible!

One bite, and it’s incredibly moist with the rich, fragrant punch of real Okinawan brown sugar!

Completely different from the sata andagi I’ve had elsewhere in Kumamoto — almost like the trendy “raw sata andagi” — that’s how moist and tender these are (^-^)v

They sell out fast, so if you spot them, grab them without hesitation! (*^.^*)

Shimanchu Café was full of delicious surprises and discoveries! The pink food truck often parks at DAISO parking lots and various spots around Kumamoto. Check the official Shimanchu Café app or Instagram for the latest locations! (^^)!

The Okinawan-Style Crêpes are seriously amazing — if you spot the pink food truck, you absolutely have to give them a try! \(^_^)(^_^)/

…By the way, there’s a cute photo spot set up behind the food truck that I totally missed until afterward… lol

Don’t make my mistake! Be sure to snap a beautiful crêpe photo in front of the adorable girl illustration!
