Welcome to Hi no Kimi Marche, Kumamoto City’s Jonan Local Products Hall

Hello, travelers!
This is Rikotama, writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m taking you to a charming little local products market in Jonan-machi, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City
Kumamoto City Jonan Area Local Products Hall “Hi no Kimi Marche”

You’ll find it just a 5-minute drive from AEON Mall Kumamoto, heading toward Jonan-machi.

Look out for the colorful, picture-book-cute building — you can’t miss it (*^-^*)

The parking lot is huge — plenty of space for everyone!

Don’t forget to sanitize your hands at the entrance before stepping inside!

The first thing that caught my eye was bags overflowing with the most
crisp, vibrant spinach you can imagine!

There’s also a tempting selection of freshly baked artisan breads!

You’ll spot puddings, charcoal-grilled treats, and lemon cakes from Hinata Makokko — the egg-themed shop our fellow SaruKuma writer Ayu Mama featured before (*^-^*)

Plus, a generous lineup of homemade bento boxes ♬

The Jio-dori chicken eggs, sourced from a local Jonan poultry farm, looked irresistible — into my basket they went! (^o^)

And believe it or not — even melons! (=゚ω゚)ノ

You might think melon season is long gone, but apparently certain varieties hit their peak in November and December. The shop staff proudly told me, “This year’s melons came out especially sweet!”

What Makes Hi no Kimi Marche Special

This time, I had to try the brand-new menu item launched on November 1st —
“Sho-yu Soft-Serve” (Soy Sauce Soft-Serve), 300 yen!

It looks just like a classic vanilla soft-serve, but one taste and you’ll catch the unmistakable aroma of soy sauce (≧▽≦)

The sweetness is balanced by a gentle hint of saltiness that leaves your palate feeling refreshed ♬

The cream is generously packed all the way to the bottom of the cone, making 300 yen feel like a real bargain (*^-^*)

※Apologies for the slightly blurry photo!

My second recommendation? This wonderful wooden playground!

You’ll find it tucked behind the market building (=゚ω゚)ノ

※Currently closed due to aging — no longer in use.

It even features two slides!

And a tire swing!

While Mom shops around the marche, Dad and the kids could happily pass the time playing here — what a thoughtful setup (≧▽≦)

Touches like this really make a difference!

Hi no Kimi Marche is just about 30 minutes from central Kumamoto City ☆
If you’re exploring southern Kumamoto, do drop by Hi no Kimi Marche — you won’t regret it!
