About the Ghibli Park and Ghibli Exhibition

Today I’m introducing the
[Ghibli Park and Ghibli Exhibition], held at the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art Main Building in Ninomaru, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, running until March 28 (the dates have been extended!).

I wanted to share this information sooner, but a few things got in the way (my PC broke!), so please forgive the delay.

There’s still time to go!!

Since you’ll need to purchase tickets in advance, this guide is especially useful for families planning to visit with children.

First things first — buy your tickets before going.
This page lets you purchase easily, even from your smartphone.

If your schedule allows, weekdays are absolutely the way to go. Not only can you enjoy the exhibition at a relaxed pace, but there are also more photo opportunities and special photo spots available only on weekdays. Time to take that half-day off!

Ticket prices:
General / University / Vocational School Students: 1,500 yen
Junior & Senior High School Students: 1,000 yen
Ages 4 to Elementary School: 600 yen

Junior and senior high school students can get the 1,000 yen rate by showing their student ID. Children age 3 and under enter free.
You’ll need to bring proof of date of birth (such as a health insurance card).
Visitors with a disability certificate are also admitted free of charge.

For parking, the closest and largest option is Ninomaru Parking Lot.

If you’re using public transportation, take the Kumamoto Castle Loop Bus “Shiromegurin” and get off at the “Ninomaru Parking” stop. (Flat fare from any stop: 160 yen for adults, half price for children.)

Inside the venue, strollers are welcome!
The Prefectural Museum of Art also has a diaper-changing area on site.

You can enter at the time printed on your ticket.
There’s no set exit time, but keep in mind you can’t go back once you’ve moved on — so take your time and enjoy every step. ♪

Highlights of the Ghibli Park and Ghibli Exhibition

The first to greet you are Totoro and the Catbus.

Photos are only allowed in designated areas.

You can actually climb aboard the Catbus!
And let me tell you — the seats are unbelievably fluffy.
Photos weren’t allowed, so I committed the sensation to memory… with my behind.
My bottom was in heaven for quite a while afterward.

There’s also a 1/5-scale model of Satsuki and Mei’s house from “My Neighbor Totoro,”

The “Fake Director’s Office,”

And a spot next to No-Face from “Spirited Away” (photo together available weekdays only).

From hand-drawn storyboards to scale models of the actual Ghibli Park in Aichi, the exhibition is packed with treasures that will delight any Ghibli fan.
