Introducing Kyushoku Agepan
Hello travelers! I’m Asukarando, a writer for [SaruKuma].
Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful kitchen car (food truck):
[Kyushoku Agepan]
I spotted this retro kitchen car with a sign featuring illustrations that bring back memories of Japanese elementary school lunches (“kyushoku”)! Let me share this nostalgic gem with you (^з^)-☆
The pink sign features a little girl wearing a traditional Japanese school lunch apron — a true throwback to elementary school days in Japan! For Japanese visitors and curious international foodies alike, this scene is pure nostalgia (>.<)y-~
Here’s the menu at “Kyushoku Agepan”!
The signature “Agepan” (Japanese fried bread) — 250 yen each
・Kinako (roasted soybean flour)
・Kibi-zato (Japanese brown sugar)
・Cinnamon
Three irresistible flavors to choose from (^o^)!
Each one is absolutely delicious — choosing is the hardest part (>.<)y-~
Kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) — 300 yen each
・Strawberry
・Melon
・Blue Hawaii
・Cola
Beyond the agepan, they also serve refreshing kakigori (^o^)
As the warm Kumamoto summer approaches, a colorful shaved ice is exactly what you need (*^^*)
And ice-cold Ramune soda is also available — 200 yen (^o^)
The kitchen car is decorated with charming little items everywhere that delight children (*^^*)
There are so many fun touches that make the whole experience exciting\(^-^)/
Recommended Menu at Kyushoku Agepan
Here’s what I ordered today (^o^)
The signature item:
Agepan (Kinako flavor) — 250 yen
Each piece is freshly fried to order (^-^)
And just like that — it’s ready!
Piping hot! Pillowy soft!
The friendly gentleman who fries up these agepan is wonderfully kind and full of fun stories — chatting with him is half the experience (^з^)-☆
Take a big bite, and you’ll experience a crispy outside with an interior so wonderfully fluffy it almost melts (^o^)
Tear it apart by hand — can you see how unbelievably fluffy the inside is?
What’s amazing is that despite being deep-fried, it’s not greasy at all!
Even kids who have never experienced traditional Japanese school lunches absolutely love this agepan — mine even stole my piece!
Ramune Soda — 200 yen
Popping open the marble in a Ramune bottle takes some strength, but it’s such a fun ritual (^-^)
You also have to position the marble just right while drinking — I remember struggling with this as a kid before figuring out the trick! It’s a uniquely Japanese experience (>.<)y-~
Traditionally, agepan is paired with milk, but the fizzy Ramune is a delightful match — refreshing and absolutely delicious (*^^*)!
If you spot the pink sign with the little girl in the school lunch apron during your travels around Kumamoto, be sure to stop by and try the freshly fried, fluffy agepan — a truly unique Japanese culinary experience\(^-^)/
