A Sarukuma writer visits “Tabaruzaka Park” in Ueki-machi Toyooka, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City, and shares a hands-on report. Admission starts from 300 yen. We’ve also covered family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello, travelers!
This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.

Today I’m introducing
Tabaruzaka Park,
located in Ueki-machi Toyooka, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City.

Tabaruzaka β€” also famous as a Kumamoto folk song

The melody of the “Tabaruzaka” song actually plays throughout the park.

Parking is available at two locations.
Here’s the larger lot, which can even accommodate microbuses (^-^)

There’s another parking area on the opposite side that fits more than ten cars.

Restrooms are available at two locations as well.
This one sits next to the larger parking lot,
and it includes a multipurpose accessible restroom.

The other restroom is found further inside the park as you walk in.

The park entrance (next to the larger parking lot)
has both stairs and a ramp.

Once you climb up, you’ll arrive at an open plaza with shaded benches.

Vending machines are placed by each parking area β€” one at each lot.

Tabaruzaka Park is also home to a museum where you can learn about its rich history.

There’s a restroom inside this building too.
On the day I visited, a group of junior high school students were also exploring the museum.

The museum charges an admission fee.

Adults: 300 yen / Elementary & junior high students: 100 yen

There’s also a memorial monument for those who fell in the Satsuma Rebellion (Seinan War).

A hand-washing station is located near the memorial.

You’ll also find the statue of the “Beautiful Young Soldier”, immortalized in the famous Tabaruzaka folk song.
Though for the little ones, it’s probably just a cool horse…

What Makes This Park Special

There’s an observation deck
with stunning panoramic views (^-^)/

Each season brings something different β€” cherry blossoms in spring, azaleas, and brilliant autumn foliage.

You can even spot trains rolling by in the distance (^-^)

Toward the center of the park, there’s a grassy lawn area
with gentle slopes β€” perfect for some grass-sledding fun.

On this visit,
my kids spent the entire time hunting for acorns (^^;

What are you even going to do with that many?!

The autumn leaves are starting to turn here at Tabaruzaka Park β€”
why not come for some leaf-peeping and acorn-collecting?
