Today I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful seaside spot located in Akase, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

PLUS SEA (PLUSSEA) is the place!
This brand new cafe just opened its doors on April 1, 2022.

A stylish new cafe has appeared along Route 57, the main road heading toward the Amakusa area! White parasols pop beautifully against the blue sky on this charming open terrace cafe zone, and…

Right next door, there’s an indoor dining building too. With parking right out front, it’s the perfect pit stop on your scenic Kumamoto drive!

Place your order at this cute container located on the corner of the open terrace!

Imagine sipping your drink with breathtaking ocean views right in front of you! Pure bliss, right? The open terrace area is spacious with plenty of seating to go around.

There are even luxurious sofa seats like this one…

 

 

 

Peek over the edge of the terrace and you’ll see the waves below. You can enjoy your cafe time while listening to the soothing sound of the ocean. The relaxation factor is off the charts!

Here’s the indoor dining area next door. Even on rainy days when the terrace isn’t an option, you’ll have a cozy spot to enjoy your meal.

They also sell handmade accessories and miscellaneous goods, which make wonderful Japanese souvenirs to take home!

PLUS SEA Recommended Menu

Here’s the food menu.
Squid Rice Curry for 1,200 yen, Akase Curry for 650 yen, and Squid-Loaded Pasta for 900 yen — the seafood-focused menu really showcases the seaside location.

And here are the desserts and drinks.
There’s the SEA Plate for 750 yen, Premium Fresh Juice for 550 yen, and Tapioca drinks for 650 yen.

Beyond the light meals, they also offer reservation-only BBQ, and starting in May, grilled shellfish will be on the menu too!

Here’s what we ordered!
The recommended Squid Rice Curry for 1,200 yen (set drink +250 yen) and the Anko Butter Sandwich for 600 yen (set drink +250 yen).

Squid Rice Curry with the ocean as the backdrop! A truly unique Japanese B-grade gourmet experience you have to try!

The squid is tenderly simmered, and the sticky rice stuffed inside (with hijiki seaweed mixed in) is classic ika-meshi (Japanese stuffed squid rice) at its best.
On top of that, they pour a spicy soup curry made with rich clam dashi broth!
It’s a surprisingly perfect match. Packed with seafood and absolutely delicious!

The Anko Butter Sandwich is loaded with sweet red bean paste — super filling and satisfying!
The weather was beautiful, and we had a wonderfully relaxing time soaking in the sea breeze. Be sure to stop by on your Kumamoto adventure!
