About Menya Kamome

Hello, travelers! This is Maru, writer for SaruKuma 🌼

Today I’m introducing a wonderful little ramen spot located in Shimotori, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Menya Kamome”.

Famous for its delicate salt (shio) ramen, this shop also has a sister branch inside Sakuramachi Kumamoto 🍜

I visited during lunchtime, but please note that hours can vary β€” sometimes they only open for dinner depending on the season or local conditions. I recommend checking ahead before your visit!

The stylish blue sign gives the storefront an elegant, refined vibe.

You’ll find it on Ginza-dori in the Shimotori shopping arcade β€” a spot many locals know well.

Right inside the entrance you’ll find a ticket vending machine β€” a typical Japanese ramen-shop system where you choose and pay for your meal first.

The interior is surprisingly spacious, with all counter seating β€” perfect for solo diners and easy to slip into on your own. Children are welcome too, although the shop doesn’t offer high chairs.

Recommended Menu at Menya Kamome

Beyond the signature salt ramen, the menu also features Japanese-style hot-and-sour ramen (wafu sanratan) and tsukemen (dipping noodles)!

Here’s a closer look at the full menu.

Salt Ramen: 750 yen. Miso Ramen: 800 yen, and more.

This time I went with the Ajitama Salt Ramen (with seasoned soft-boiled egg) for 850 yen ✨ As an egg lover, this is always my pick!

Just look at that beautifully clear, golden broth 😍 It’s light yet packed with the deep umami of chicken, pork, and vegetables β€” the kind of flavor that quietly soaks into your soul πŸ˜‹

The noodles are wavy and wonderfully chewy β€” a perfect match for the broth.
And here’s the secret touch: a hint of yuzu citrus that releases a fresh, gentle aroma 🍊
It’s the kind of taste that appeals to everyone β€” men, women, young and old alike!

That perfectly half-cooked, glistening yolk is just irresistible β€” it’s practically glowing! ✨
The seasoning has soaked in beautifully. I love it!

It was so delicious I finished it in no time πŸ˜†
The broth feels light and guilt-free, so I drank every last drop! Ahh, that was good πŸ˜‹

If you’re visiting Kumamoto, please give it a try! 🍜
