Today I’d like to introduce a wonderfully nostalgic spot tucked away in Uchinomaki, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Dagashiya Chirorin Mura” — a traditional Japanese penny-candy shop.

Dagashi (traditional Japanese penny candy) has charmed kids in every era. While many modern stores now feature small “dagashi corners,” a true old-school dagashi shop is a rare treasure — and we found one right here!

Can you feel the nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere just from the storefront?

Step inside Chirorin Mura and you’re greeted by row after row of colorful Japanese candy ＼(^o^)／

Vintage Japanese household appliances are also displayed throughout the shop — a real time capsule!

A washing machine you’d usually only see in history textbooks!
Amazingly, it apparently still works!

The vintage refrigerator is also reportedly still in use — incredible! (・o・)
The retro electric fans and rice cookers are pure Showa-era charm.

A shared community parking lot is located nearby. The yellow-marked spaces are free to use (^-^)

It’s just a short walk from the parking area to Chirorin Mura (^-^)Watch out for puddles on rainy days! (>_<)

What to Try at Dagashiya Chirorin Mura

Kids buzz with excitement, completely overwhelmed by the choices (^o^)/

The display of Umaibo (a famous Japanese puffed corn snack) is just adorable (*^^*)

They have Ramune (Japan’s classic marble-top soda) too — perfect for sipping right out front (^o^)/
