Introducing ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe

Curry! Curry! Curry! Spicy and hot~ ♫
If you’re a fan of Japanese anime, you might recognize the famous Curry Bread Man song that pops into many Japanese moms’ heads whenever curry is mentioned!

So today, I (Gussan) am excited to introduce you to ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe, located on the 6th floor of AMU Plaza Kumamoto.

Sarukuma has previously introduced family-friendly spots inside AMU Plaza, but this time we’re heading there for lunch!

ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe is a sister restaurant to Hanabishi, located in the Aso Monzen-machi shopping street near the famous Aso Shrine — so we had high hopes for the flavor! ♡

I went with my food-loving lunch group to check it out~ ♫
The entrance to ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe.
The bright, welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to enter with kids or strollers.
In front of the shop, you can buy takeout curry and pickled chopped daikon radish.
The pickled chopped daikon comes in three varieties — perfect as a curry topping or for adding flavor to other dishes. We were tempted to try them all!
The display in front of the shop looked so delicious that our entire lunch group couldn’t stop staring…
They have a flexible payment system, which is always appreciated.
Inside, there are counter seats perfect for solo diners, as well as table seats,
and sofa seats too — the sofa area even has a touch panel for ordering.
The menu. The nostalgic color palette and illustration style give it a stylish, retro vibe.
Wow! At first glance, the prices may seem a bit high, but…
the Oyama Akaushi Curry at 1,888 yen (tax included), topped with Kumamoto’s famous Akaushi (red beef), and the
Tomato Butter Chicken Akaushi Hamburger Curry at 1,888 yen (tax included) are quite reasonable when you consider the volume and the rarity of Akaushi beef.
There’s also a Kids Curry at 880 yen (tax included) which comes with a toy.
The Select Curry is available from 740 yen (tax included).
Except for the Oyama Akaushi Curry, you can choose your rice portion size at no extra charge.ASO Milk Shaved Ice — 990 yen (tax included)
This looked absolutely delicious as well…

Recommended Menu Items at ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe

Oyama Akaushi Curry — 2,218 yen (tax included) ※with extra meat and rice
The rice is surrounded by medium-rare slices of Akaushi beef. So much Akaushi in one dish!
This is the signature, indulgent specialty of ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe ♡
H.T.H Collaboration Curry — 1,888 yen (tax included)
This is a special collaboration curry featuring popular shops from the Aso region:
H = Hibari Kobo’s “Award-Winning Bacon”
T = Aso Torimiya’s “Akaushi Hamburger”
H = Aso Hanabishi’s “Oyama Spicy Curry”
A truly special curry that even surprises locals from Kumamoto!
Akaushi Keema Vegetable Curry — 1,340 yen (tax included)
Loaded with a colorful variety of vegetables. Beautiful presentation that’s especially popular with female diners.
What I ordered was the Aigake (Two-Curry Combo) — 990 yen (tax included)
It’s hard to tell at a glance, but it’s a half-and-half plate of Akaushi keema curry and tomato butter chicken curry.
Spicy but with just the right level of heat — absolutely delicious. The kind of flavor that has you craving it again and again.
The dressing for the vegetables was also tasty.
You can help yourself to the special chopped daikon topping designed just for the curry — add as much as you like!
Without traveling all the way to Aso, you can enjoy the authentic flavors of the Aso region right at AMU Plaza Kumamoto with
ASO Oyama Curry & Cafe.
While they don’t have children’s chairs, they do offer kids’ tableware on request — so be sure to stop by during your shopping trip! ^^
