About Kanoko

Hello there!
This is Maru, a writer for Sarukuma πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒ

It’s the season of fresh new soba πŸƒπŸŒ± Craving a warm bowl of buckwheat noodles, we headed out to a beloved handmade soba spot in Uki City!

Today’s feature is in Koboyama, Matsubase-cho, Uki City:
“Kanoko”.

Wait, is that just a regular house?! At first glance it blends right into the neighborhood and is easy to miss…

Don’t worry, the signboard out front makes it easy to find!

Plus, there’s a spacious, easy-to-use parking lot. On weekends it fills up fast πŸš—πŸ’¨

The entrance is right across the street, looking just like a private home.

Beyond the wide front garden, lush greenery wraps the property in a soothing, countryside atmosphere.
It was so popular we had to wait outside, but here’s the kicker…

When your table is ready, your name is announced over an outdoor loudspeaker! 😲😲

It’s a bit like a village PA system (haha), so you can wait in your car or stroll around without missing your turn. Such a charming touch that fits this rural setting perfectly (^O^)

“Hi Mom, I’m home!”

Oops, wrong house (^^;; The vibe is so warmly nostalgic β€” like visiting your grandparents’ country home β€” but don’t get confused! Slip off your shoes and step inside.

Inside you’ll find a tatami zashiki room and a sunny engawa-style veranda. Every seat has a proper table, and children’s chairs are available β€” so families can relax πŸ‘¦πŸ‘§

Recommended Menu at Kanoko

Here’s the menu! The set meals looked especially popular.

First up, the Kamo Nanban Soba (duck and leek hot soba) β€” 1,250 yen.

Rich dashi broth meets the deep umami of duck β€” the soup alone is worth the trip πŸ˜‹

The handmade soba is delicately thin and bursting with that wonderful buckwheat aroma β€” absolutely top-tier!

Next, the Sansai Wasabi Soba (mountain vegetable and wasabi soba) β€” 950 yen.

It arrives dramatically blanketed in nori seaweed β€” a striking presentation! A little wasabi rides on top in a clever “nori boat.”

Wasabi in hot soba? That was a first for me…

Generous heaps of mountain vegetables and noodles. The gentle tang of the sansai mingled with the sharp kick of wasabi β€” a refined, grown-up flavor that warmed the soul 😍

It’s a soba shop, but rumor has it the desserts are a hit too (^^)

We tried the wholesome Soba-flour Crème Brûlée — 270 yen!

Crisp, caramelized sugar on top, silky-smooth custard underneath β€” a properly authentic dessert that we absolutely recommend trying πŸ˜‹

The fragrant soba-cha (buckwheat tea) is free-refill β€” and we happily helped ourselves 🍡 Soba-cha is just so good ✨

Highly recommended β€” be sure to drop by when you’re in the area! πŸ’•
