Introducing STAND
Hello, travelers!
This is Binako, your Sarukuma writer, currently wrestling with whether to switch on the air conditioning or tough it out!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to “STAND”, a wonderfully unique spot located in Izumi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.

Located right across from Yume Town Hamasen shopping center, many locals will likely recognize this distinctive building at first glance.

The parking lot is spacious, and best of all — it’s covered! Anyone who has experienced a Japanese summer knows the inside of a parked car can feel positively infernal under the strong sun.

STAND also operates as a used car dealership, and the vehicles on display are seriously stylish and cool — definitely worth a look even if you’re just browsing.

Just looking at them gets you excited — and gradually wishing you could take one home!
Recently, more and more women have been stopping in for car consultations,
and the staff offers thoughtful, women-friendly suggestions to match.

Step inside, and you’ll discover a curated selection of outdoor gear and lifestyle goods.

The kids’ clothing here is absolutely adorable.
I was instantly convinced these pieces would carry our family stylishly through the winter.

There’s even a section dedicated to dogs!
From frisbees to fashionable dog clothing — if you’re traveling with your furry companion or are a fellow dog lover, this section is a must-see ♪

You’ll also find the famous Japanese all-purpose seasoning “Horinishi” — a popular outdoor cooking favorite that I’ve been eyeing every time I visit.

The outdoor terrace seating is dog-friendly, too!
Grabbing takeout and enjoying it on the terrace alongside your pup is a slice of pure travel bliss.

Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll arrive at a charming café space upstairs.

The walls are lined with rows of books, and you’re welcome to take them down and read while you enjoy your meal or coffee.

And here’s a traveler’s bonus — free in-store Wi-Fi is available.
A precious find for digital nomads or anyone who needs to stay connected on the go.
STAND’s Recommended Menu

Here’s the lunch menu.
All lunch sets come with soup included in the price.
You can add a drink for just +200 yen,
or upgrade to a beer set for +300 yen — perfect for a relaxed afternoon.

The right side shows the takeout menu options.

The STAND-exclusive cake set features cakes from “DOBLE K”, a beloved Kumamoto patisserie we’ve also covered on Sarukuma.
The limited cake set is available from 15:00 to 20:00.

Traveling with kids? You’ll love the “Kids Plate” (800 yen), designed especially for little diners.

This time, I went all-in on the Loco Moco Plate (1,600 yen) — a Hawaiian-inspired comfort dish that has won hearts across Japan.

I added the +200 yen coffee set as well.
The coffee here is sourced from Minami-Aso Coffee, a renowned local roaster from the Aso region of Kumamoto.

Now, let’s dig in!

The thick, satisfying hamburger steak has a subtly spicy kick.
Even on its own, you can fully savor the rich, hearty flavor of the meat.

But of course, I couldn’t resist — I had to break that golden yolk and let it cascade down like a delicious waterfall.

Mixed with the hamburger steak, the silky, mellow egg coats the bold, meaty patty in pure harmony.
It’s the moment angels and devils join hands on your plate — heavenly indulgence in every bite.

Even better — the Loco Moco Plate also comes with hayashi rice (Japanese-style hashed beef) sauce on the side, so you can enjoy multiple flavor combinations.
I genuinely think there are more than five different ways to enjoy this single dish —
and I sampled them all happily during my meal.

The accompanying soup was a creamy pumpkin soup — gently sweet and warming, sending a wave of comfort straight to the soul.

This is the takeout version of the [Garlic Shrimp (1,400 yen)].
Served with plenty of fresh salad, it’s a wonderfully balanced and satisfying lunch option ♪

From the first floor to the second, STAND is a truly delightful spot brimming with discoveries, deliciousness, and excitement at every turn!
Whether you’re a car enthusiast, a dog lover, or an outdoor adventurer,
this is a must-visit destination during your time in Kumamoto!
