Introducing Minami Aso Coffee

Hello, travelers!
This is Gussan, your Sarukuma writer.
Today I’m introducing a charming little cafe located in Oe, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
[Minami Aso Coffee].

With its modest yet adorable appearance, Minami Aso Coffee is celebrating its 14th year of business at this location.

While there’s no dedicated parking lot, there’s a coin parking lot right next door.
I parked at the nearby AEON.Located just off the tram street, this place is truly a hidden gem.
Keep an eye out for the small sign so you don’t miss it!
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by the wonderful aroma of coffee beans.
It’s a scent you can’t help but breathe in deeply.

You might feel a little nervous walking in,
but don’t worry—the master will welcome you with surprising warmth and friendliness.
This stylish roasting machine is what they use to roast their coffee beans.
I’d love to see it in action one day…
Across from the counter is a sunlit table seat where dappled sunlight streams through.
It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a chat with the master.

From the outside, Minami Aso Coffee looks small and cozy.
But there’s much more to this charming spot than meets the eye.
Surprise! Minami Aso Coffee has a wonderful garden hidden out back.
You can enjoy seasonal flowers and plants here. On the day I visited,
I was treated to hydrangeas and grapevines.
The garden is full of playful touches, and just looking around is incredibly soothing.
The garden also connects to the neighboring organic restaurant [Drops],
where you can enjoy a meal while gazing at the seasonal flora.
The garden and “Drops” share a unified atmosphere
that’s truly stylish and inviting.
The owner of “Drops” is also a wonderfully calm person who left me feeling at ease.
I definitely want to come back for lunch next time.
This is another cafe space.
They occasionally host workshops here as well.

Recommended Menu at Minami Aso Coffee

Here’s the menu at Minami Aso Coffee.
The menu comes with helpful descriptions, making it easy even for coffee beginners to choose.
They even offer a coffee set with handmade cheesecake from “Drops”.
This time I tried Guatemala (front, 400 yen) and Kenya (back, 450 yen).
The rich Guatemala had a refreshingly clean finish.
The Kenya is recommended for those who enjoy coffee with a bright acidity.
The combination of a nostalgic garden and delicious coffee is simply magical.
For just 400 yen, you can savor this luxurious cup.Children’s voices from the nearby kindergarten,
the songs of birds…
It’s hard to believe this peaceful oasis exists just steps from the tram street.
I got so relaxed I ended up staying much longer than planned.
Once you find your favorite blend, you can also take some home or to the office to enjoy.
They even offer decaffeinated coffee, making it a great choice for expecting mothers who love coffee.

Gift box sets are available, and they ship throughout Japan.
Be sure to drop by Minami Aso Coffee for a relaxing break.
I’ll definitely be visiting again myself.
