Welcome to HOTEL VERDE

Hello, travelers!
This is Asukarando, your Sarukuma writer.

Today’s spotlight is on a hidden gem tucked away in Hon-ide, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture — HOTEL VERDE.

Right now, Kumamoto Prefecture residents can take advantage of the “Kumamotto Subsidy” travel discount!

Our family booked a stay at Hotel Verde using this subsidy, so let me walk you through the experience!

Here’s a quick rundown of the “Kumamotto Subsidy”…

Eligibility: Kumamoto Prefecture residents

Sunday through Thursday
Up to 5,000 yen off on stays of 10,000 yen or more

Friday, Saturday, and the day before holidays
Up to 3,000 yen off on stays of 10,000 yen or more

Just download the form, fill in your name and address, and submit it at the hotel — that’s all there is to it!
(You can also pick up and complete the form directly at the hotel.)

And here’s the best part — Greenland amusement park is just a 2-minute walk away!

Hotel guests enjoy free admission to Greenland
Plus you can skip the entrance line, which is incredibly convenient!

And here’s the entrance to Hotel Verde!

The lobby is spacious and relaxing — a great spot to unwind.

Waiting in the lobby is none other than
Kamen Rider Saber!

Hotel Verde has long offered a Kamen Rider-themed room, and we’ve stayed here many times because of it.
Right now, there’s a room themed after the currently airing Kamen Rider Saber series!

Here’s a look at the Kamen Rider room from one of our previous stays!

Guests staying in this room even receive Kamen Rider goodies as souvenirs — my son was completely thrilled the time we stayed here!

There’s also a Kumamon-themed room available — a must for fans of Kumamoto’s beloved black bear mascot!

The gift shop is packed with Kamen Rider merchandise, Kumamon goods, and lots more!
You’ll also find plenty of hotel-exclusive souvenirs you can’t get anywhere else.

And here’s a bonus — Hotel Verde guests get 10% off shop purchases. Score!

Let me also share a few highlights from the in-room brochure.

Hotel Verde’s original yakiniku (BBQ) sauce — 800 yen
Looks delicious!

There’s even an on-site beauty salon — perfect for moms who want a little pampering!

Right next to the lobby, you’ll find a nursing room and a diaper-changing station — a real reassurance for families with little ones!

Why HOTEL VERDE Stands Out

Here’s the room we booked this time — a Standard Twin!

The view from the room shows Greenland’s giant Ferris wheel and a heart-shaped roller coaster — magical, especially for kids!

Here are the in-room amenities!

Mineral water is provided in the room — a thoughtful touch, especially for kids!

For dinner, you can choose between a traditional Japanese course or a buffet. We went with the buffet this time!

Here’s the buffet area!

They even have baby chairs available — another big plus for families.

Strict hygiene measures are in place. Guests must wear masks and gloves when serving themselves.
Acrylic dividers are also installed at every table for added safety.

Now then…
Time for the main event — the dinner buffet!

First up — a salad and a little of everything that caught my eye.
This is what my plate looked like. The bagna cauda was especially delicious!

And of course, no Japanese hotel buffet would be complete without curry rice!

Why does hotel buffet curry always taste so good?
Hotel Verde’s curry is on the milder side so kids can enjoy it — my son devoured his plate!
But here’s the magic: while it’s mild enough for children, the spices still come through beautifully for adult palates. A clever balance!

There’s a fresh bread selection too, and the blueberry bagel was absolutely divine!

And of course, we made plenty of room for dessert!

The buffet restaurant was filled with other families too — it really confirmed that Hotel Verde is one of the best choices for a family getaway in Kumamoto.

There’s also a natural hot spring (onsen) public bath on-site — a huge hit with the kids!

Open from 6:00 to 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight)
Moms can sneak in an early-morning soak or a late-night dip after the kids are asleep — pure bliss!

After dark, the hotel’s fountain, illuminations, and the Greenland Ferris wheel come together to create a truly magical scene!

If you’re a Kumamoto resident eligible for the “Kumamotto Subsidy,” now is the perfect time to bring the family to Hotel Verde for a relaxing, fun-filled stay!
We highly, highly recommend it!
