Today, we’re heading to
Oshima Park, located in Oshima-machi, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Is it long? Or wide? Either way, it’s a uniquely shaped park!
In the foreground of this photo, you’ll find…

…a swing set!
The building you can see in the back is “Fukushima Dental Clinic.”

Why You’ll Love Oshima Park

And there it is again… The mountain!!!
(For details, please refer to “A Park with a Manda Coal Mine-Style Mountain ①”)

Mountain-shaped bouldering! (A name I just made up myself.)

This side of the mountain even has a chain to help you climb up.
(Side note: I’m a bit deflated by my own oversized sleeves in the picture. The lack of self-awareness in middle age is a real thing…)

Don’t worry — there are also stairs for those who’d rather skip the climb.

Here’s the view from the top.

There’s a slide, a sandbox, a hand-washing area… and I spotted a low bench too!

The photo didn’t quite capture it well, but this slide is also a side-by-side double slide.

Oshima Park is fairly close to “Yamanoshita Park” (the one featured in “A Park with a Manda Coal Mine-Style Mountain ①”), and honestly… I have a hunch the same person designed both. Yep.

And there it is — a stretch bench!

And a sit-up bench.

Surprisingly, these are pretty popular among older folks!

(A reference probably lost on today’s kids — a famous old Japanese commercial jingle!)

And in the foreground of this photo…

…there’s a small open space, perfect for a casual game of catch ☆

And further in the back, I noticed something interesting!

Commemorating the 170th anniversary of Tamiya Clinic!?

Wow, Tamiya Clinic has that much history!
Located along National Route 389 by the seaside, it’s a place every Arao local knows!

Oshima Park is right next to Tamiya Clinic.

While there’s no parking lot on site, the park is within walking distance of JR Arao Station!
While you’re there, be sure to check out “Nagasakiya Arao Store (Ltd.)” right by the station too (^_-)-☆
