Introducing Plus One Organic
Hello there, fellow travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma, ready to share another local Kumamoto gem with you.
Today I’m taking you to Kamisuizenji in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, to a wonderful little spot called
“plus one organic”.

Plus One Organic just opened its doors on February 27, offering a thoughtfully curated selection of organic products and healthy meals.
This shop is right up my alley, so naturally I had to visit straight away!
For drivers, there’s a small parking lot marked with the shop’s signboard, with space for 3 cars.
(If it’s full, please use a nearby paid parking lot.)

Beside the steps leading up to the entrance, there’s a gentle slope, making it easy to enter with a wheelchair or stroller.
Step inside and you’ll find shelves filled with all sorts of inviting goods.
Everything looks so tempting that my heart was racing the whole time.
They also stock fresh organic vegetables.
Everything looks so vibrant and delicious you’ll want to dig in right then and there.
You’ll also spot Japanese pantry essentials like miso, tofu, and traditional pickles.
Honestly, you could fill your entire dinner table from this single shop.
They also offer a fermented brown rice (kouso genmai) bento box for 800 yen.
It’s a perfect grab-and-go option for a workday lunch or a relaxing picnic in the park.
Toward the back of the shop there’s a cozy table area where lunch guests dine in.
(Reservations are highly recommended for lunch.)
There’s also outdoor terrace seating, which would be lovely on a warm, sunny day in Kumamoto ♪

This time, I had the lunch set ♪
The Today’s Plate (1,500 yen) comes with a small card describing each dish on the plate.
For an extra 300 yen, you can add dessert and a drink — totally worth it!
While not specifically designed for kids, they kindly provided a small sharing plate for my child ♪

The moment the plate arrived, my happiness meter
shot through the roof.
This is exactly my dream lunch — every color, every garnish, the entire presentation… simply gorgeous.
The salad was an absolute standout.
The fragrant rapeseed blossoms (nanohana) gave it a fresh, light, beautifully Japanese flavor.
And here’s the best part — this potato salad uses no mayonnaise!
It’s dressed with lemon juice and olive oil instead.
Light, fluffy, and refreshing — even my son, who normally avoids potato salad, kept reaching for more.
Carrot and hassaku (Japanese citrus) salad.
The gentle bitterness of hassaku paired with the crisp carrot makes for a refreshing, well-balanced bite.
Both the texture and the citrus burst were a delight.
Now the herb-vinegar baked kuruma-fu (Japanese wheat gluten) — this was seriously next-level.
A crispy outer coating gives way to a juicy, savory burst of flavor inside.
The umami just keeps building with every bite.
It’s also wonderfully tender, making it kid-friendly too ♪
And the real revelation for me was this burdock root (gobo).
When I focused on it, I noticed something remarkable —
it was unbelievably tender.
I had no idea burdock could be cooked to such a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture!
And then the fermented brown rice.
It’s prepared using the traditional Nagaoka method, giving it a chewy, soft texture that’s incredibly satisfying and easy to enjoy.
On the way out, I picked up some snacks my son had his eye on.
They’re loaded with calcium and iron — guilt-free goodies I can happily share with him!
An incredible variety of products, plus a wholesome and delicious lunch.
It really felt like a treasure box of a shop to me.
The staff are warm and welcoming, and my little one had a blast exploring the whole shop.
