Introducing Karaage Marushigeya

I’m always meaning to finish my kids’ leftovers,
but somehow always forget —
I’m Binako, writer for Sarukuma!

Today I’m introducing a fantastic spot in
Ono, Matsubase-machi, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Karaage Marushigeya”.

The “Uki Chicken” lettering in the corner and the photo of someone sinking their teeth into a juicy piece of chicken — already mouthwatering!

You can park your car right next to the shop.

There’s a display case inside, but since everything is freshly fried to order, only the menu is posted on it.

Here’s the menu.

According to the staff,
there can sometimes be a wait, so they recommend pre-ordering via LINE.
If you reserve in advance, pickup is super smooth.

They also sell vacuum-packed karaage (550 yen) — perfect for taking home or as a souvenir.

Recommended Menu Items

This time, I ordered:
Herb Chicken Bone-in Wing — 370 yen
Bonjiri (chicken tail) — 240 yen

I love that they put a plastic bag over the paper bag — such a thoughtful touch for keeping things clean!

Please excuse my less-than-perfect plating skills lol.

First, I tried the bonjiri (chicken tail).
Ever since the first time I tried bonjiri, I’ve been completely hooked! For visitors unfamiliar with it, bonjiri is the small, fatty, juicy cut from the chicken’s tail — a Japanese izakaya favorite.

Yep — absolutely delicious.

The plump, juicy texture mixed with a satisfying chewiness,
and the slightly spicy seasoning makes it perfect as a snack alongside a cold beer or paired with a bowl of rice.

Next up — the herb chicken.

It’s hefty, and look closely:
there’s a familiar chicken wing tucked inside.
Spotting it gave me such a thrill lol.

The light, refreshing taste of the meat is incredible.

Sinking your teeth into that thick, packed-full bite of chicken —
pure happiness.

It’s so good, you’ll want to eat the bone and all!
