Today I’m thrilled to introduce a hidden gem
located in Kumafu, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Yu no Kura”.

I discovered an absolutely amazing onsen
and I just had to share it with you!
Yu no Kura offers private family baths (kazoku-yu), so you can soak and relax with your loved ones in complete privacy โ™ชThe parking lot is conveniently located right in front of the building.

And on the way to the bathhouse, this charming red Japanese mailbox is
seriously photogenic!!!

Highlights & Recommendations

On the way inside, you’ll find a free foot bath (ashiyu).
They even provide towels for drying your feet, so
all you need to bring is yourself!

Vending machines are available both inside and outside,
so you can grab a refreshing drink right after your bath โ€” pure bliss!

Payment is made at the ticket vending machine right next to the entrance.

They also sell towels, toothbrushes, and other essentials for visitors who travel light.

Once you choose your room,
they hand you a timer (stopwatch) so you can keep track of your session easily.Inside each private bath room, there’s a vanity area
complete with a sink and a hair dryer.

They even have peeling gel available, so
if you’re in the mood for some skincare pampering, this is your chance!

The air conditioning costs 100 yen for 60 minutes if needed.

Inside the bathing area, you’ll find
horse oil (bayu) shampoo, conditioner, and body soap โ€” a traditional Japanese skincare favorite.
It’s so well stocked with amenities, you really don’t need to bring much at all.

And finally โ€” drumroll please โ€”
here’s the star of the show: the onsen itself!

The water temperature is just right, and the quality of the hot spring is wonderful โ€”
your body warms up all the way to the core.
My kids couldn’t get enough of hopping in and out of the bath, having a blast! (laughs)With its low price and cozy atmosphere, this onsen is an absolute treasure.
