About the Shop

Hello travelers!

I’m Binako, a SaruKuma writer who loves wearing fluffy socks every day โ€”
even when they peek out from my shoes when I’m out and about!

Today I’m introducing a wonderful little spot located in
Kusaba-machi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City:
“SOYS & DAYS”.

SOYS & DAYS specializes in Taiwanese sweets like douhua (tofu pudding)
and authentic Chinese-style congee.
This combo simply has to be delicious!

The shop is tucked just off Kamitori Shopping Street.
Look for the eye-catching blue roof and the cute soybean illustration โ€” that’s your landmark!

SOYS & DAYS offers takeout,
so even if you don’t have time to dine in,
you can still enjoy their delicious douhua on the go!

Inside, there are about five tables,
including cozy two-person seats โ€” perfect for solo travelers too!

There’s a handwashing station right by the entrance on the left,
so you can stay refreshed and clean โ€” a thoughtful touch!

The walls near the tables are lined with
Taiwanese cookbooks and recipe collections.
A fun way to pass the time while waiting for your order!

Zunda (Sweet Edamame) Douhua โ€” 800 yen
Mala (Spicy Sichuan) Congee โ€” 700 yen

And here’s the best part:
Choose-Your-Own Douhua + Choose-Your-Own Congee
Lunch Set is available for 1,300 yen.

It comes with a small side dish and drink.
You can even pick the portion size โ€” go big and treat yourself!

This time, I ordered the
Zunda Douhua โ€” 800 yen.

My very first taste of douhua!
The texture is incredibly silky!
Imagine tofu, but even softer and fluffier โ€”
it just glides down your throat.

The bits of zunda (sweet mashed edamame) on top are simply irresistible!

It’s nothing like the typical zunda I’m used to.
This is real zunda!
You can taste it with every bite.
The coarse, slightly chunky texture is just amazing.

The sweetness is gentle and well-balanced, making it incredibly easy to eat.
You’ll want to come back and try every flavor on the menu!

I didn’t want to leave even a single drop of the syrup behind โ€” that’s how good it was.
And since it’s made from soybeans, it’s healthy, filling,
and truly the ultimate guilt-free dessert.
