Patisserie Roku: The Cream Puffs at This Famous Cake Shop in Minamioguni Are Absolutely Massive and Delicious!
2020.11.14

Our SaruKuma writer visits “Patisserie Roku” in Roku and shares a full report. Price range: from 1,500 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Hello, travelers!
I tried making amazake (sweet rice drink) the other day,
but while waiting for it to cool down, it ended up going completely cold!
This is Binako, your SaruKuma writer!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to a hidden gem located in
Manganji, Minamioguni Town, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Patisserie Roku”.

This place is a super popular shop where lines form regularly!
Google reviews give it absolutely glowing ratings!
The cream puffs are especially famous,
so I headed over with my heart pounding in anticipation!
On a side note, my son recently started copying me
and says “wakuwaku dokidoki” (excited and thrilled) all the time! lol
How adorable is that?!

As you walk into the shop, on the right side
you’ll find coffee jelly sets and assorted sweet gift boxes neatly displayed.
These make wonderful Japanese souvenirs to bring home!

Inside the showcase,
row after row of glittering, beautifully crafted cakes seemed to smile right at me!
Wow, what a dazzling sight!
This Kakazaka Chocolat has actually been awarded the
Superior Taste Award
by the International Taste Institute, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium!
And yet, the price is just 1,500 yen!
It’s so reasonable I could cry tears of gratitude!

You’ll also find adorable creations like the
Apple and Cheese Soufflé for 480 yen!
This one absolutely has to be delicious — just look at it!

And the star of the show:
Shio Koji Cream Puff for 250 yen!
It’s literally glowing in the case!
Outside the shop, I saw crowds of customers
happily munching on these famous cream puffs!

Of course, I had to try one myself!
Shio Koji Cream Puff — 250 yen
The photo doesn’t fully do it justice, but…
this thing is absolutely HUGE.
The volume is unreal!

Oh wow! This blew me away!
Incredibly delicious!
The custard filling is rich and generous, but
the choux pastry shell is perfectly crisp and the sweetness is so balanced you can easily polish off a whole one!
That delightfully crunchy choux shell adds the perfect texture contrast
and honestly, I could eat these forever.

Custard overflowing, smile spilling over.
That’s me, Binako!
I kept saying “so good, so good!” right down to the very last bite.
These cream puffs are definitely something I’d love to take home as a souvenir too!
If you’re in the area, you absolutely must give Patisserie Roku a try!
