📌 What you’ll learn in this article
A Sarukuma writer visits “Hakata Kinryu” in Sadowara, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City, and shares the experience. Prices start from just 100 yen. We’ve also gathered tips for visiting with kids, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, travelers!
This is Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”

Today I’m introducing a fantastic ramen spot located in Sadowara, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
【Hakata Kinryu】.
This is a tonkotsu (pork-bone broth) ramen chain that originated in Fukuoka and operates throughout western Japan, with Fukuoka as its hub.

There are 5 locations in Kumamoto.

This time, I visited the Daini Kuko-dori branch!

The Daini Kuko-dori branch of Hakata Kinryu is located near the Mashiki-Kuko Interchange.

Right across the street is ‘Menya Nikutora,’ which Sarukuma has previously featured…
And nearby is ‘Tatsunoya,’ another shop I’ve introduced before. This area is a true ramen battleground! There’s plenty of parking right in front of the shop.
Here are the operating hours.
They’re open until late at night, making this a great spot for a late dinner after work!
There are table seats…
…and traditional tatami (zashiki) seating, too.
Children’s chairs are available for both table and tatami seating areas.

They also have kids’ tableware and even children’s chopsticks!
I can’t say it enough — having kids’ chopsticks available is such a thoughtful touch!

They’re on LINE, too! Be sure to add them as a friend.

Recommended Menu

The biggest highlight has to be this enormous manga collection!
Apparently, every Kinryu location stocks a wide selection of manga. Amazing!

Slurping ramen with a manga in your other hand!
It might not be the best table manners, but isn’t it just heavenly?!
You start to wonder — did I come for the ramen or the manga?
Either way, it doesn’t matter!
This is pure bliss!

My son followed suit and dove right into the manga.
They even had the wildly popular ‘Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)’ series!
There are picture books and magazines for younger kids, too!
That means little ones won’t get bored while waiting for their ramen!

The menu is also extensive!
Weekday-only lunch set menus.
Generous portions and budget-friendly prices!

À la carte menu.

Side dishes — also affordable!
Drinks and takeout menus.

But here’s the absolute star of the show!
Ta-da!
Kids’ ramen for only 100 yen!

Let me say that again!
Kids’ ramen is just 100 yen!

Is this even allowed?!
100 yen — that’s actually cheaper than a 100-yen shop item!
(Since 100-yen shops include tax and come to 110 yen, lol.)

Of course, I ordered it!
It comes topped with a flavored boiled egg and finely chopped chashu pork.
(The chopped chashu is a thoughtful detail — easier for little ones to eat.)

For 100 yen, this is incredible!

This quality at this price?
The best cost performance ever!
I’m forever grateful to Kinryu!

For myself, I went with the Tonkotsu Ramen at 430 yen (plus 150 yen for a large portion).

I ordered it large to share with my son. (Yes, I can hear you asking, “Wait, didn’t your son already have the kids’ ramen?” Yep, he had that too!)
The large portion is equivalent to two servings of noodles — seriously filling.
Highly recommended for hungry guys or growing teenagers with big appetites!
Free toppings include beni-shoga (red pickled ginger), takana (pickled mustard greens), and karashi-miso (spicy miso).
Halfway through, I piled them all on for a whole new flavor experience!

Tonkotsu ramen and beni-shoga and takana truly are a match made in heaven!

Manga, picture books, and 100-yen kids’ ramen!
This is an absolute must-visit ramen shop for families with children!
