Buon giorno! Hello there!
I’m Sanji, your Sarukuma writer, born and raised in Rome!
(Just kidding, lol)

Ever since my last Italian food article,
I’ve been completely obsessed with all things Italian!

Today, I’d like to introduce a wonderful spot located in
Nankan Town, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Stone Oven PIZZA Kapok”.

Tucked away on a small hill roughly halfway between Tamana and Nankan, this hidden-gem pizzeria is run by a husband-and-wife team. The wife, a certified vegetable sommelier, sources beautiful produce that her husband transforms into mouthwatering pizzas.

This time, I made the scenic drive from Kumamoto City โ€” perfect for a relaxing day trip!

The exterior alone gives off such a charming, welcoming vibe.

There’s a parking lot right next to the restaurant โ€” super convenient!
Seating is intimate with about 18 seats inside, plus a lovely outdoor terrace โ€” absolutely perfect for the season!

Recommended Menu Items

Even the menu has a stylish, artisanal feel!
From classic tomato-sauce-based pizzas to

cheese-based and genovese (basil pesto) varieties โ€”
the lineup is incredibly rich and diverse!

How about a mascarpone and nuts pizza?
Now that sounds incredibly elegant, doesn’t it?

I bet it’s absolutely delicious!

They also offer salad and drink sets as well as spare ribs and other meat dishes.

And of course, an authentic Italian beer pairs perfectly with pizza โ€” it’s a match made in heaven!

Seasonal Special: “Japanese Chestnut Pizza” featuring locally grown chestnuts โ€” 1,400 yen

Oh my goodness!
Just looking at the menu had my stomach growling in anticipation!

First out came soup and salad!

The salads change with the seasons โ€” beautifully colorful, with all dressings made from scratch.

On this visit, we enjoyed homemade basil and Parmigiano dressing alongside a delicate Japanese pear dressing.

Visually stunning and bursting with seasonal flavor โ€” a truly soul-soothing salad.

“Bismarck” โ€” 1,500 yen

Topped with salsiccia from Smokehouse Yukari and farm-fresh egg from Tamana Farm.

I broke the yolk and let it run all over the pizza! (Sorry, no photo of that magical moment, lol)
The rich yolk mingling with the tomato sauce and salsiccia was nothing short of pure bliss!

Friarielli (Italian leafy greens) and Hashiru-Buta Pork Sausage Pizza โ€” 1,450 yen

The savory richness of the sausage paired wonderfully with the pizza โ€”
a truly authentic taste of Naples!

“Genovese” โ€” 1,400 yen

The aroma of the homemade basil pesto is absolutely irresistible.

“Quattro Formaggi” โ€” 1,400 yen

This pizza features four exquisite cheeses: mozzarella, gorgonzola, mascarpone, and Grana Padano.

It’s served with a drizzle of rare, locally harvested honey,
and the way the sweetness mingles with the salty cheeses creates pure harmony on your palate!

You can really taste the chef’s passion in every bite.

They also accept private bookings and host workshops.

We may have ordered a feast this time, but trust me โ€” one pizza per person disappears in no time!
The location is breathtaking, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed, leisurely meal.

Run by a music-loving couple,
the restaurant occasionally hosts live concerts.

Imagine savoring delicious pizza while listening to live music โ€” what a treat!

Word of warning: this hidden gem is so popular that the dough sometimes sells outโ€ฆ

I highly recommend making a reservation in advance!
