Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a writer for Sarukuma,
always torn over whether to grab an ice cream or not!

Today I’m introducing a wonderful little tofu shop tucked away in
Kumin, Kamoto-machi, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“So Tofu Shop” (Sou Toufuten).

There’s one parking space available right in front of the shop!

Here are the recommended menu items at So Tofu Shop:
Oboro Soy Milk (silken-style soy milk) — 240 yen
Tofu Hamburger Steak — 170 yen
Soy Milk — Large 520 yen / Small 170 yen
A full lineup of soy-based goodies awaits!

Tofu-based side dishes and desserts are a friend to anyone watching their health!

Inside the shop, the refrigerator is stocked with all kinds of tofu products!

Soy Milk Pudding — 130 yen
Soy Milk — 170 yen
(Sold out on the day of our visit.)

Zaru Tofu (basket-strained tofu) — 390 yen
This variety is firm-style (momen) tofu!

Ganmodoki (deep-fried tofu fritters) — 6-piece pack 220 yen
Ganmodoki — 4-piece pack 220 yen
Hon-Nigari Tofu (traditional bittern tofu) — 240 yen

Being able to choose between 4-piece and 6-piece ganmodoki packs is a nice touch!
The Hon-Nigari Tofu is a smooth silken-style tofu.

Peanut Tofu — 230 yen
Sesame Tofu — 230 yen
These are also on offer!
Both of these are absolutely guaranteed to be delicious!

Yuba Hirosu (yuba-wrapped tofu fritters) — 5-piece pack 350 yen

Another tempting item that’s hard to resist!

Each customer is also given one piece of ice for free —
a thoughtful service for those with a long drive home!

Recommended Menu Items

Soy Milk Pudding — 130 yen
First up, we tried this!

My child wanted to transfer it onto a plate,
so I plopped it onto a Shinkansen-themed dish (from the Daiso 100-yen shop).
(Technically I dented the container to let air in and let it slide out.)

It’s refreshing with a deep, rich soy milk flavor!
Rather than being sweet like typical pudding, the umami of the soybeans really shines through!

It’s so light and easy to enjoy, even after a meal!
My child gobbled it up too. (laugh)

Next up was the
Tofu Hamburger Steak — 170 yen

Oh my goodness, it’s SO delicious!
The tofu gives it a light, refreshing taste,
but you still get that juicy meatiness — perfect with a bowl of rice!
It’s the ideal balance of light yet satisfying!

“Hey, you didn’t transfer the hamburger to a plate?!”
No teasing about that, please! (laugh)

Next, the
Zaru Tofu — 390 yen

Plump, full, and beautifully round!

This densely packed tofu seems to be calling out, “Hurry up and eat me!”

I made a little hole like this…
and poured the included sauce right in!

The soybean flavor is so rich and incredibly tasty!
And because it’s firm momen-style tofu, it’s wonderfully hearty!
The sauce is also fantastic.

Just one of these will fill you up — it’s truly a
healthy, dynamic tofu experience.

The robust flavor and aroma of the tofu were so amazing
that I found myself breathing in deeply through my nose to savor every bite. (laugh)

Oh…
Sorry for being so dynamic about how I eat…
But trust me, it’s the best way to enjoy it!
Give it a try yourselves!
