It’s lunchtime and the sleepiness is kicking in —

Today I’m introducing a charming little spot located in
Sugi, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Chaagariya”.

You’ll find this hidden gem on the grounds of FamilyMart Yamaga Nichirinji-mae — yes, right next to a convenience store!

They even offer free tempura crumbs (agedama) ♪
They were already gone when I arrived, which tells you just how popular this place is!

The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming — a lovely touch (^^♪

Here’s what’s on offer:
Sweet Potato Tempura (Imo Ten) — Small 110 yen / Medium 550 yen / Large 1,100 yen
The large size is a whopping 1 kg! Massive! Honestly tempting!!

Ikinari Dango (sweet potato dumpling) — 90 yen
Potato Tempura — 150 yen
Burdock Tempura — 200 yen
Daigaku Imo (candied sweet potato) — 250 yen
Sweet Potato Chips — 250 yen

From sweet potato treats to crispy fried snacks,
there’s a wonderful variety of Japanese sweets to choose from ♪

This time, I just had to try the one that caught my eye —
the Ice Ball — 200 yen!

Look at these colorful ice balls!
There’s something about them that just sparks joy lol —
and kids will absolutely love them too (*´Д｀)

Some of them have slightly imperfect shapes,
and honestly, I love that homemade, not-too-perfect charm ( *´艸｀)

There are even two-tone ones mixed together.
The colors are so adorable that I caught myself guessing
“What flavor is this one~?” as I ate lol
Binako returns to childhood!

Fun discovery — the handle is actually a toothpick!

The ice itself has a nice rough, chunky texture with a satisfying crunch!
You can really chomp through it, which is so satisfying ♪
And surprisingly, it doesn’t melt too quickly. Haha.

Sweet, cold, and delicious —
before you know it, you’re reaching for another one.
It’s seriously addictive (^^♪

These innovative, playful ice balls were such a fun treat to enjoy!
